"The location is just a short stroll from the iconic clam chowder at Old Fisherman’s Grotto & surrounded by many great dining options. The cinnamon toast at Jack’s Monterey was delish. There’s also a Carmel bakery downstairs, which was a convenient treat to have just steps away. The hotel lobby itself set the tone right away. It felt laid-back yet inviting, exactly the kind of atmosphere we look for when we’re on vacation. We were also able to check in early, which made our arrival smooth. Such a great bonus! They even provided scavenger hunt activities for our kids, which was such a thoughtful touch. This is truly a family-friendly hotel that makes traveling with kids feel easy & enjoyable. I’m very particular about bathrooms, beds, & overall cleanliness, especially since I have an immunocompromised child, so this is something I don’t take lightly. Portola did not disappoint. Both the bathroom & bedroom were spotless & even better than expected in person. The bed & pillows were incredibly comfortable. The A/C worked great, & having a ceiling fan was a nice bonus touch. The photos online truly don’t do this place justice. It’s even more beautiful in person. The heated pool was a hit, & the towels felt clean and luxurious. The staff were nice! There was a tiny red spider spotted on my child’s bed, but thankfully my eldest caught it right away. Aside from that small moment, everything about our stay was superb and exceeded our expectations. Highly recommended!"

"The property was well decorated, close to shopping and food, but the bed was sorta uncomfortable and the water pressure was eh. I’d stay here again as I’m not picky but it definitely had charm of an old PG house!"

"This was a perfect stay. The home is cute, in a historical district that makes it even more interesting. The outdoor fireplace was so much fun to sit around after a long day of activities. The hot tub helped sooth some sore muscles. And the location was perfect, close to walking trails along the shore and close enough to walk to dinner at night. Communication with owner was timely and she was very helpful We Loved this stay!!!"

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We are a group of three, a mom and two teenage daughters. The place was quirky and had everything we needed. The steps to the beach were a hit with my girls and the ease of parking in the back garage was great. But be aware it will only handle small cars, otherwise you need to park along the street. The place is a duplex, but we had no issues with our neighbors. This is a great place to stay if you like walking along the coast, have easy access to the aquarium, Big Sur, and Carmel."

"The moment I checked-in, I was awed by the cleanliness of the whole house, and the host actually welcomed me with complimentary bottle of wine, crackers and some cheese spread. They also provided me amply towels and beach towels as well. The interior is also very nice, you can tell the owner had upgraded the home. The location is awesome with only 1 block to the Lover's Point Beach. Also 3 blocks to downtown Pacific Grove where there are many nice restaurants to choose. The neighborhood is very safe, I walked my dog at 9-10 pm with no issue. My only warning is if you drive a big suv like me, it might be little tight to park at the off street parking spot provided (I made it, but very tight)"
