"I loved my stay in Montana and I can see why it was voted as Norway’s best hostel. The highlight for me was the activities organised by the great team of volunteers. I was lucky to be there on a Sunday so joined the hike to Baunehytten - beautiful scenery, lake swimming and coffee and waffles.
In terms of practicalities, the hostel is a 20 min bus trip from the bus station (which is very close to the train station). Take bus 12 and you can buy a ticket (49) on board. It is worth buying the 24 hr bus pass if you are likely to do 3 trips in a 24 hr period.
The hostel is very clean and extremely it well equipped. The kitchen has everything you would need and there’s a supermarket just along the road - it is closed on Sundays like others in Norway.
The breakfast was generous and varied. There is a great sunset viewing area and I recommend going to the 5.30pm coffee/tea and biscuits with the volunteers.
