"Had an amazing honeymoon here last week. We stayed in Kokonoe which had a private open air bath. Right at the star, the staff was very polite and took care of us extremely well. The room we had was so nice and did not leave us wanting for anything. The open air bath especially was a treat and I did not want to leave, especially as my view during was breathtaking. I chose the option that included both breakfast and dinner and I was amazed at the traditional Japanese meals I received. There were so many small dishes that made for a great culinary experience. I also enjoyed the great beverages during dinner and would recommend the kiwi liqueur. I wanted to specifically give thanks to Kameda who made conversation with us with the English he knew and was very kind during our meal. This is definitely a place I would recommend to those who want a relaxing time away from the city and a culinary experience."

"Exceptional traditional ryokan if you want to relax in Hakone & Yugawara! The thoughtfulness and service of the staff was wonderful in every aspect. Rooms were supplied with traditional robes, comfortable sleepwear, onsen on our terrace and hot spring baths. Kaiseki cuisine was delicious, plentiful and presentation was over the top. This is a beautiful facility with an excellent staff. If you want to experience Japanese culture at its finest you need to come here. Our 4 day visit was perfect and worth every penny. We will be back!"

"The property was a hidden gem. The staff, the service, the facilities, the food were excellent. We were upgraded as we realised on arrival that it would be difficult for us to sleep on futons. They were very accommodating to our needs. A little bit far from Hakone but worth the distance. Can’t recommend enough"

"Fairly quiet end Mid April. Couldn’t figure out where the light switch for one of the lights and staff isn’t always around even during the day so it’s a bit tricky to get help. Almost everything is self served which is great but if you need help then it gets a bit tedious. Facilities are great and the location is also very convenient. Quiet, clean, and spacious. I was on the fourth floor and there was no escalator. Fortunately I travelled pretty light. If you are disabled or has lots of luggage might need to ask for a lower floor."

"The hotel is up a steep sloping street and in a quiet area. It has a traditional feel and the cafe is really nice and the hot springs, however there is no view, unless you pay for the private baths upstairs. The whole place could use a bit of a facelift, but more of an issue was the lack of service and the quality of the food, particularly dinner. We arrived too late for the 6:30 seating and was given the 7:00 p.m. seating. Clearly the appetizer box had been sitting out for a long time and the kobo croquet was dry and tasteless, the apple, kabocha and daikon (?!) tart was one of the worst combos of flavors I have ever had and the chicken was dry. The breakfast was better, but the chicken left over from dinner was served as some new dish and was worse than the night before. We were not offered coffee or tea with breakfast and when we asked for salt, pepper and milk were told that they didn't 'have' them, which of course they do. We went to the cafe after breakfast to get another cup of coffee and the machine was out of beans. One of my friend's I was traveling with lost her phone and we asked the front desk to check the restaurant and cafe and were told that no one had found it. My friend went down in the morning and checked under the seat where we were sitting and, there it was. Just for a bit of perspective, I have lived in Japan for 30 years and chose this hotel because I wanted to stay within my friend's budget, and feel it was still too much for the experience."
