"The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, they kindly allowed me to practice my bad Japanese but they also spoke some English, so it was easy to communicate. As I was leaving they gave me a little origami pig as a good luck charm - very sweet. I was in a mixed shared room which was very clean and comfortable. The facilities were great, with showers, a laundry room and a private bathtub which you could rent for an additional ¥300. The hostel is conveniently located near to many shrines...

"This was listed as adults only which I interpreted as no kids. I booked 7 nights and included the $2/day in-breakfast. It soon became clear this small and nice hotel was suitable for couples as well with not only daily rates but partial day rates; this apparently is fairly common in Japan with the "adults only" tag. "The Hotel Grandvia Kyoto was a beautiful and convenient spot for our brief stay in Kyoto. The three person room was spacious with wonderful amenities. The breakfast buffet was expansive and tasty. The staff was ever gracious. Being basically in the train station was highly convenient and, if desired, one could do some serious shopping in the nearby mall."
