"You need to make a reservation at the hotel in advance if you would like to eat there. Otherwise there are a lot of nice places around the lake. "

"We were in the Hydrangea room downstairs, with its pretty screens and a private balcony, and plenty of space. The futon weren't as thick as some other places, but we had spares, so we gave ourselves another layer. We enjoyed our dinner and breakfast, with attentive service. Check-in was great, and we enjoyed the hot lemon drink served on arrival. This ryokan has a choice of onsen, and we opted for the private room, which was lovely and relaxing. It was easy to get here by bus, but only a short walk to the Cable Car, so we were ideally placed for exploring everything we wanted to see in the Hakone area."

"One of the best stays I've had. From the instant we walked down the drive the team were there to welcome us in, get us checked in and seen to our room. The room itself was nicely laid out and seemed very traditional in set up, I enjoyed the fact the place was many years old traditional house and it was very peaceful both in stay and rest. The food both during dinner and breakfast was impecable and offered a taste of Japanese cuisine across many courses. They also have a vegan option and our server Uka was great to explain everything we were eating and had excellent service of courses. The onsens was also a nice addition, very traditional and relaxing. Some may suggested some of the features are a bit dated, however I feel you would loose the the places character and appeal if looked to modernise. We were lastly given good bye from the staff and given a taxi ride to gora train station. A great final gesture for an impecable stay. "

"Excellent customer service, good food, nice French and Japanese meals provided daily during stay. Hotel is dated and need some facelift. Love the 3 on-site Onsens, saw an amazing sunrise on last day at hotel. Would come back to Hotel New Akao if going to Atami again. "
