"Mat and Wolfie made our stay at the Wellington wonderful! Both were helpful with suggestions for hikes and food. We had long conversations with each. The pub had a nice fire,and Wolfie was kind, hospitable, and intriguing. Mat helped us find the most perfect room as we were walkins arriving just before dinner. He told us stories and laughed and enjoyed our interest in the area. It was definitely one of our most favorite stays in the UK. The hotel is charming and a quintessential UK pub hotel....

"Although our stay was fleeting (just one night) we were made to feel extremely welcome by all of the staff. The room lacked a TV, but actually this was an absolute blessing and it made change not to reach for a remote control. Instead there was a DAB radio which was playing a soothing Classic FM when we entered our rather classy country pub hotel. Everything was to a very high standard in our room. "We have stayed at the falcon several times in the past and every time the food, rooms and the staff are fantastic. We come from Canada and each time we visit bude this is our place of choice to stay."

"Do not stay here. Fire alarm went off in the middle of the night and the owner was incompetent - there was no apparent cause but for around an hour it kept tripping again so eventually I tried (without success) to sleep in my car. The hotel was dirty, no-one was available to help/serve breakfast etc, items such as milk in the kitchen fridge were out of date. It is a very old unmodernised property."

I am not scared of the atmosphere of living plant and animal nature, I love it. but when there is dirt and terrible chaos around, garbage is lying around the territory and you are met by a man in terrible dirty clothes… I felt dangerous and wanted to run away. the road to the hotel is terrible and has one-way traffic. swamp and darkness. I have no idea what to do if someone comes the other way. feeling unsafe and dirty. we said that we did not want to stay...
