"A little disappointed with our stay, the staff were lovely we went to the lakeside grill after booking a table, for a buffet it was expensive and the food was subpar and not as advertised on the video signs. As the weather wasn’t favourable we decided to leave early and didn’t even stay for breakfast. There is a lot of potential for improvement it needs reinvestment and an update it’s in a wonderful place but needs to match that with amenities."
"Hotel itself is excellent. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Rooms are huge and beds are comfy. In room onsen is barely large enough for 2, but still a nice feature.
Public spa area was great when we were there. Had the place to ourselves at 7am. Might be less pleasant when busier.
Only downside really was that we were only there for one night and it was heaving with rain. As a result, didn’t really do any of the things we planned.
One note, and this is mentioned on the website, there is...
"Before we got to the hotel the communication about getting to the hotel from the train station was poor and unhelpful.
It was disappointing that there wasn’t a restaurant for a light lunch or dinner. And we asked about restaurants nearby we were only told of one. We found one we liked on our own.
The hotel was lovely and I especially liked the women only bath."
"The hotel was just magical, from start to finish we loved every minute of HAKONE Setsugetsuka, especially the private Onsen. We also used the bath in our room which was fabulous. Highly recommend this hotel wish is right next to the train station so great if you don't want to walk to far."
"A great place to stay. Staff were very helpful. Clean facilities. Spacious hollywood twin room with balcony view over river. Only negative is the private balcony onsen was hot water, not spring water. But there are 2 privare onsens available ( no reservation, up to 40 min) and they were good. Free drinks on 3rd floor were a nice surprise as well as toof top garden. Breakfast was excellent."
"Unfortunately due to weather Mt Fuji view wasn’t there from the room. There is an issue with mosquitoes in the room despite insect repellent and the room had a distinct moist smell. The outdoor onsen is good. There isn’t any rule observations for onsen though as I have witnessed foreigners with large uncovered multiple tattoos entering the onsen without showering or covering the tattoos. The Kaiseki dinner was ok, less than my last stay at a different ryokan. Considering the price it’s a little...
"The room is lovely and it’s very nice with the fact that it has a fireplace.
Everything is clean and very maintained.
The breakfast was superb and so was dinner."
