"We had the ocean view room on the second floor. It was newly renovated, with a beautiful private bathroom and beautiful wood work throughout. We were a bit spoiled when we were there, since there were no other guests on our floor during our stay. The kitchen and living room were spacious and well equipped, and Josh was always there to help us if we needed it. We would definitely stay here in the future"

"This was amazing! Great staff, great location AND there's even a swimming hole (5 min walk, if that) with a waterfall! I've never stayed in a shared house before, but this one has spoiled me! It's close enough to be able to drive to all the good tourist spots. Oh, and hopefully you're there for the "big" farmers market on Saturdays. If I get back to the Big Island I'll be coming back here! Thank you for the great time!"

"Great stay!"

one bedroom Loft Apartment in the heart of Downtown Hilo

10/10 Excellent

"Stayed here for a week whilst visiting the eastern side of the big island and loved our time here! It has a 70s/bohemian vibe which mirrors downtown Hilo and is much larger than the photos. With 2 x double beds, a well equipped kitchen and decent bathroom and plenty of space to hang clothes it was ideal for us + you can use the washing machine/dryer in the entrance hallway in afternoon hrs. It’s above/joint on to Rainbow Jo’s shop and staff in the daytime were v.helpful. It’s also situated right by The Palace Theatre, Hilo farmers market and next to a bunch of restaurants, coffee shops and bars in downtown Hilo. There is a bit of noise (vans/general town noise) from the surrounding streets but we’re from a big city so it didn’t bother us! We don’t drive so it was useful to be so close to the bus station where you can hop on free buses all around the island. (It’s worth noting downtown Hilo has a bunch of unhoused ppl knocking around which is sad to see, but they weren’t bothering anyone or us) All in all this flat has been a perfect base for us to explore and if you’re creatives like us and looking for and unusual, retro space that’s great value for money, I would definitely recommend! Thanks for having us!"

"Marc Nishimoto is such a great guy, if there were any issues it was because of my ignorance; for a simple 2-3 day stay it was perfect for me and my family, if there was any problem, I thought the bath/shower floor was a litttle slippery, but the kitchen was fully stocked, lots of towels, beds good, and an ideal location if you want to check out Kamehmeha Avenue's strip of stores."

"If you're planning to book this place for the summer, note that there will likely be bugs and it will be hot. There is only 1 AC in the living room, but the rest of the apartment gets hot. The fans are not effective at cooling the place down. Our first night there, our baby's monitor read 85 degrees even though we placed all of the provided portable fans in her room... we had to move her crib into the living room near the AC for her to sleep peacefully. The next day, the kid's room was still in the 80s for her nap time.Aside from that, we ended up leaving after only 1 night (of an 8 night stay) because of bugs, including cockroaches. We saw and killed over 15 bugs throughout the apartment in less than 24 hrs. One crawled across me at 2am!!. We have an infant, so the bugs heat was not safe or acceptable. When I reached out to the local host (who was great, but she is not the owner) about the bugs, they told me the owner would not refund the stay, but offered an additional cleaning. There's no way a cleaning would take care of a bug infestation and I also didn't want to expose my baby to any chemicals they might use. Since I turned the cleaning down, the property management company would only refund 500 (1/4 of what I paid!!).My guess is that this property hasn't been rented during the summer yet, which is why all the reviews are positive. The owner needs to change tactics for the summer.. tropical places get buggy and hot! If fixed, this place would've been perfect!"
