"Good location in Rye and we managed to utilise the hotel parking. However, the building and the bedrooms need some money spent on them, for general maintenance and updating (and fixing the rooms). The single staff member we saw was great but wouldn't hurt for them to have extra help in peak check-in and breakfast times."

"The superior room was comfortable and led out to a huge quiet garden. But the decking and furniture outside were rotten. The bathroom had an unstable toilet and a difficult shower. Insulation was poor. Presentation on approach wasn’t great, with dead plants everywhere. Having said that, we had a great night’s sleep and staff were friendly and helpful. Location great."

Dirty walls, dirty shower and bathroom, toe nail clippings on bedroom floor. Towels on every bed but 2 with stains. Floors uneven and creak. No chain on door. "Me and my partner stayed at the Mermaid in over the May Bank holiday. We stayed in room 19, which was a great size and clean. Staff were really friendly and breakfast was very tasty. Would definitely recommend this hotel when staying in Rye."

"We loved staying at the Royal Oak . Would go again. Wonderful Sunday lunch. Staff couldn’t do enough for you. Only thing’s needs to be worked on , Our lovely modern room had nowhere to sit & dry your hair .. Only needs a mirror . No draws to put cloths in , only four coat hangers . No shower gel or shampoo. Just a bit of hand gel at the bottom of a dispenser. Just things you tend to expect. The pub is well situated, locals very friendly. Lots of things to do in the area."

Also concerning: the hotel took full credit card details, including the security code (CVV), and wrote them down on a piece of paper, which is unsafe practice. "You need sharp eyesight to see the hotel as it's right on the roundabout. It was perfectly placed for where we needed to be the next day. Parking was not a problem. The room was an odd shape and in need of new carpet. The doors are fire doors and they really did Bang shut every time someone came in our out of the coach house.
