When you are interested in military history, the fortresses of the defense line of Amsterdam are a must see. Build around 1900, it consists of some 46 fortresseses, batteries, dikes, dams and locks. The enemy was partly kept out by inundating the land outside the defense line. The invention of the airplane was a real spoiler for military strategists...

"We stayed 9 nights at BOB W Oosterpark in May 2025 and had a lovely experience. Agnes was an AMAZING hostess and the apartment was even better than we had imagined - wonderful location for everything we wanted to do and very comfy to return to after a long day. "We stayed three nights and though rooms are small we expected that Loved our view of the canal from our room The reception people were so friendly & helpful Sorry we didn’t get their names but especially the Spanish lad and the Asian girl were super helpful and lovely Would totally recommend Hotel CC it was very central to trains tours and walking about and a laundromat "
