"10/10 hotel, skip the food. This hotel is a gem! Firstly, the location is perfect - a very short walk from the train station, right on the boardwalk, and next to an ice cream stand. Stayed in a partial beach view room, which had an amazing view of both the beach and the NYC skyline in the distance, which was incredible at sunset. Would definitely take this over a room directly facing the beach! Room was very clean, as was the bathroom. Hotel staff were very kind and accommodating. The pool, though quite busy on a summer weekend, was great. Be sure to get there early if you want a lounge chair. And definitely BYOB and bring your own food, because the bar at the pool was pretty atrocious. My wife and I ordered salads, which came without dressing. When we requested dressing (for our different salads), the server returned with two cups of salsa. Drinks weren't much better - very sad selection of canned domestic macro factory beers (save for one excellent local IPA), no wine, and poorly made cocktails - my wife's strawberry daquiri was clearly made with undiluted mixer concentrate! Breakfast at the main restaurant wasn't much better - slow, expensive, and pretty underwhelming, though the server was extremely nice. The mezzanine bar was quite lively at night, and had a good selection of cocktails, draft beer, and wine. Would absolutely stay here again! "

"Our family of eleven enjoyed a week long stay at Modern Retreat. It was a great space for 6 adults, 4 toddlers and an infant. The large kitchen was well appointed and lots of needed household items provided. We especially enjoyed the two covered balconies for our morning coffee and fresh air. The kids loved the games/toys and upstairs living space. The location was close to many restaurants, grocery store, playground and several blocks from the beach. We are happy to recommend Modern Retreat for your stay on Long Beach! "
