"There was a Starbucks"

"We waited an hour before a shuttle came to pick us up from the airport. Front desk kept pushing the time the shuttle would come — “4 minutes,” “oh, it’ll be another 15 minutes,” “no, it’ll be another 20 minutes” after calling three times asking where the shuttle was. The hotel did not apologized but accused us of missing the shuttle when we saw other hotels’ shuttles come by 3 times. The room is mediocre; not for a long, relaxing stay. Basically a quick in and out situation. Almost zero amenities."

"A terrible check in experience. I was not greeted other than asked if I was checking in. I was not asked if I had stayed before. A machine would be more welcoming. I paid a lot of $$ for the location so perhaps asking for a professional hospitable experience is too much. My room was prepaid and I provided a credit card for any incidentals. The machine did not work. No apology was given and in fact I was made to feel it was my error. I cannot recommend staying at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport. If you just want a room to sleep in because you have an early flight. Stay elsewhere and take a cab or Uber to the airport. For the price I was very disappointed. I am old enough to remember this type of check in experience in the 1980's. Cold, Aloof and the feeling you are the problem and an inconvenience to the clerk. I did not leave looking forward to my next stay. I left remembering there are other options for my to spend my money and this will not be one of them in the future."

"I’ve stayed in a lot of properties throughout my life, from high end luxe to mediocre. We were very surprised at how run down and unkept Carey Centre is. We had two rooms over two nights. The first room had moldy shower walls and was in desperate need of painting. The towels were cheap and small. No shampoo or bath soap provided. No water or ice abaibke on our floor. If you didn’t fill your own bottle before 7:00 PM you were locked out of the main lobby area where the single home size water dispenser was located to serve the entire property. Day two we moved to another room. While there was wall-mounted soap and shampoo, there were no towels. Again, it was obvious the place hasn’t been painted or carpets clean in a long while. We Also thought it was odd there were wires dangling around - a/c connector plug hanging from the window (no a/c unit), door lock batteries hanging loose from the handle, and some kind of internet (booster) hanging from the hallway wall with the wires flopping in the wall. To summarize, the location is great when visiting UBC, but they clearly need to invest in being the property up to expectations of guests paying $160-$215/night."
