Rio Mono Villa #3: Central, 2BR Creekside Villa w/ Pool & Lots of Wildlife!

  • Rio Mono is a boutique creekside mini-resort with just 12 units, located in a quiet residential area in central Manuel Antonio. The first 4 units are free-standing 2-bedroom villas, are the closest to the pool and creek, as well as are the nicest and most spacious of all. Villa #3 is single level, modern and has high ceilings. There are 2 bedrooms--one with a king bed and one with a queen, which share a bathroom. There is a large shared pool with loungers as well as a BBQ area. Lots of wildlife!

    The living area has a comfy sofa and 42” smart TV and communicates well with the kitchen and outdoor dining patio. The kitchen itself has everything you need to feel at home—there is a large stove and oven, medium-sized refrigerator, coffee maker, blender, toaster, etc. The outdoor dining patio is the perfect place to enjoy morning coffee—or an afternoon glass of sauvignon blanc—and enjoy the surrounding nature.

    Rio Mono is a jewel set in the rainforest, only barely off the beaten path. Located in Valle Pura Vida, it enjoys a location midway between Quepos (& the marina) and the main beach (& national park). It’s in a quiet residential neighborhood known for its abundance of wildlife: monkeys, sloths, scarlet macaws, toucans, iguanas and other animals are frequent visitors. At the same time it has all of the amenities of a hotel--from a large, curved pool lined with sunning loungers and pagodas, to a shared BBQ area.

    Valle Pura Vida is also home to a rarity in Manuel Antonio: a quaint creek that passes behind Rio Mono and leads to a 15-foot waterfall. For intrepid hikers it's only a 40 minute trek to the waterfall. You can also hike to a couple of local beaches in around 45 minutes.

    Rio Mono is ideal for nature lovers and people who want to be close to nature and have the amenities of a resort--but also midway between the area's attractions.

Gorgeous place, great pool. Monkeys, macaws on our back doorstep. Check in was a little confusing but worth the patience!

Bel hébergement en général. L’accueil et le manager est bon. La piscine est super bonne et propre. Bon emplacement. L’air climatisé est très bon. La laveuse sécheuse aurait besoin d’un lavage, les oreillers devraient être changés de même que les têtes de lit. Merci !

Costa Rica Stay

We thoroughly enjoyed this rental and its location was excellent to restaurants, Manuel Antonio National Park and great beaches. Loved the privacy of this location and that you can observe so much beautiful wildlife while have breakfast on the patio. The pool was well kept we enter using it everyday.

The place was good enough, however dealing with the owner was not great. I think there are other places you could stay at with less hassle. rent at our own risk.

Wonderful Stay at the Rio Mono!

My family stayed at the Rio Mono while visiting Manuel Antonio National Park and greatly enjoyed the 2 bedroom condo we rented. Johan was very easy to communicate with in advance of our stay using we arrived at the property. A few bumps up the road but everything was wonderful. We would definitely stay here again!!

What a gem!! Such a peaceful place surrounded by nature and wildlife. Our place was well stocked with everything we could need and our host even brought over spare bedding when needed. He gave us recommendations for local mangrove tour (which was a great experience). The shallow end of the pool was perfect for our toddler. We also really enjoyed and appreciated the short walk across the road to the Chillax Bistro! Great for families or just a couple looking for a relaxing getaway! Thank you!!!

We didn’t have water when we got there and most of the next day. But we decided to stay. It was quiet and peaceful, the pool was great. Justbwhatnwe were looking for.

Lovely property

My family stayed here for the second part of our trip. The property is beautiful. You are nestled behind the busy road in your own world. The kids enjoyed the pool and it’s a plus it was open until 10. I highly recommend you booking this for your stay. Johan was very helpful and communicative throughout the process and even greeted us upon arrival.

Paradise off the Beaten Track

Directions to the property were sketchy but once there great property. Pool is uniquely designed but unfortunately I have mibility challenges which required the help to get a ladder so I could exit. Sink in bathroom is very high and a challenge to use. Despite all setting is divine.

Very Tranquil Setting

My husband and I stayed at this property 4 nights the first week of March in order to be close to Manuel Antonio. It was exactly as described in the listing. Especially enjoyed the back deck with the jungle setting where we enjoyed morning coffee and seeing lots of birds. Johan, the property manager, was amazingly helpful with info about the area and a wonderful person in general. The owner is very lucky to have him to take care of this property. Our only complaint is the very uncomfortable couch, everything else was outstanding. We will be back and will definitely rent here again.

Good access to nature

The location is interesting with monkeys and birds in the wild back yard. The pool area is relaxing. Working with the property manager was easy and he’s very responsive. The rooms lack storage of any kind and the kitchen is under stocked (eg no roasting pan for the oven) and some of the furniture is worn out. We cooked many meals though and worked it out. We also found the drive up to the property extremely rough and steep. Still, it’s a good value and location for visiting the area.

Great place, excellent property manager with great communication. Lost a star because the washer and dryer was dirty enough to be unusable until we cleaned it ourselves before using it. After using it, some of our laundry got ruined. This was unit three I believe. The unit next door has a better washer and dryer—not a combo appliance.

Valle Pura Vida

This place is very nice. The pictures that they show us on VRBO must be when it was brand new. The place is pretty but needs some touch ups. The pool was nice, but that too needed to be painted. There was no toaster and we ended up with a grill to make toast. Also, one thing we didn`t like was the cockroaches in the kitchen. The rooms were very comfortable though. This place is very safe also. The place looks bigger in the pictures than it actually is.

Needs up keep

The pictures were outdated of the property. The property is run down and needs maintenance especially to the roof and some of the patios had construction items.The property was of the beaten path and found out a lot of Uber’s don’t like to pick up out there due to the road and entrance.

Nice potential, needs TLC

Unfortunately we were somewhat disappointed. The online pictures look fantastic but once there reality sets in and you start noticing the deficiencies. There’s no microwave or toaster, l lot of water damage and the pool needs to be refinished.

Dankeschön an Johann

Wir möchten uns bei Johann sehr bedanken, der uns super betreut hat und jederzeit erreichbar war, als wir einen platten Reifen hatten. Der Aufenthalte war wirklich sehr schön. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt.

Beautiful area

The jungle feel of the area was amazing as was the wildlife we saw during our stay. Overall, our experience was okay however, there is some deferred maintenance that needs to handled in the units and by the pool.

Beautiful & Relaxing

A big thank you to Johan for being such a wonderful host from the moment we arrived to the moment we departed. The property is as beautiful as the photos. There is construction going on due to expansion from 7 am - 4 pm but it did not bother us at all as we were up and about. The property is extremely close to core downtown Quepos and a few minutes drive to the beach and Manuel Antonio national park. A lovely place to stay. The only warning I have is be careful of the roadways going in and out of the protected property as it can be a little bumpy.
