"A very nice place to stay. The room was big and the hotel sat in nice grounds. The meal I had was also fantastic (the lamb)."

"The staff were some of the best we have ever met and met our needs perfectly. They ensured we had a room that was suitable and went the extra mile to achieve this so a big thank you. The property is in the process of being updated but this didn't affect our stay except perhaps to see how well it appears to be going and I'm sure when this is finished they will have a hotel to be proud of. They have only owned this hotel for about 6 months and it is obvious they are making huge efforts to update...

"The room was not serviced on two days out of four - the reason given was that the housekeeper did not work those days. The restaurant was closed for evening meals at short notice. The entrance door was closed and locked early in the evening and my keys did not work on occasions."

"I stayed for one night and appreciated having an affordable place close to the station, with plenty of shops nearby. I was also happy to find a kettle with coffee and tea, which made for a fresh and pleasant morning. The only downside was that there was no hand soap or shampoo provided, which would have made the stay more comfortable. Overall, I’m satisfied with what I received for the price and happy with my stay"

"Bedroom was clean and modern, bathroom hadn’t been cleaned with marks on the floor along with hairs and flies in sink. Hot water wouldn’t turn on in bath, sink and kitchen sink. Big tv but no tv remote to go with it. No bin in any room."

"Very well liocated from station and for locsl bars and shops. Spacious beautiful entrance on arrival. Parking just outside back of hotel , however a charge of £8 for psrking there. Very small bathroom with not much roon for own toiletries. Clean comfortable bed. Good breakfast which was included in our price. Our friends were asked if they would like an upgrade for £14. Which they accepted. However, they couldnt see very much difference from original room . Overall, a liovely hotel, very good...

"Very friendly staff, our room was spacious and clean. It was an accessible room and the bathroom had plenty of handrails, just one problem the bath was too steep and high too get into for someone with accessibility issues. A walk In shower would have been more accessible. Breakfast was great. I had to go back for extra sausage lol"

"The property is dated, and the facilities in the room are not of a great standard. I was in a top floor room on a very hot day, no air con, no fan and the window was prevented form owning more than an inch (I understand as there was a large drop on the other side). But the room should not be bookable when temperatures rise. A staff member found a fan but made me feel like an annoyance for asking for a fan or the availability of an alternative room. A dated hotel with a dated approach to customer...

"I needed an overnight stay en route to scotland . Cartref was easy to get to from M6 and felt clean and cosy. Traffic was a little noisy ( I had to open window due to heatwave) but the host thoughtfully supplied earplugs as well as various other "extras " for myself and the dog. Shared bathroom was clean and easily accessible. I would recommend Cartref if visiting Carlisle or just passing through and i would certainly consider staying here again if in the area."
