Venture 12.5 miles to while away an afternoon at the National Trust’s Tattershall Castle, a striking 15th-century red-brick edifice with a double moat. The rolling Lincolnshire Wolds, where there is a myriad of footpaths to follow, is 12.5 miles away. Wildlife enthusiasts will wish to plan a day trip to the nature reserve at Gibraltar Point, a stretch of protected coastline with an array of birdlife, 22 miles away.

Admire the garden surrounding the building before stepping inside the red-brick building. Climb the stairs to the first floor, where the welcoming apartment is situated. You’ll emerge in the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, with its cottage-style leaded window and skylight. Enjoy the calm ambience as you sink back into the plump sofa with a cup of tea. Surf the channels of the Smart TV, looking for your current boxset. The modern kitchen, which has tasteful cabinets and light work surfaces, has been designed to make home-cooking easy during your stay. There is also a table where you can share meals together. As dusk falls and you feel ready to retire for the night, meander through to the double bedroom, with its pretty porthole window.
