America's first nuclear power city invites you to explore the fascinating EBR-1 Atomic Museum and nearby Craters of the Moon National Monument. Climb to the top of Number Hill for panoramic views or visit during July's 'Nuclear Days' festival for small-town charm and scientific history.

This is Craters of the Moon from the view atop Inferno Cone. A lot of contrast going on here with life springing from the ashes of lava tubes and spatter cones all atop a series of caves and tunnels to explore.

I'd say go before July or the heat reflecting off the Obsidian may be too much to handle. If you come after that... run to the caves where it will be 15 - 20 degrees cooler.

Ooh, one last tip if you're camping in the campground try to get site #13. It's super private and makes you feel like you're in a crater. Otherwise try to book the group site as it's the only one that will allow a proper fire. :)
