Given the pictures on the Expedia website and the positive reviews on the site, I expected much more from the Sunroute Plaza. We stayed at 6 hotels during our 19-day trip and this was by far the worst.
It started with the check-in, which was a self check-in station that didn't work for us due to odd naming standards and then we dealt with an attendant who didn't understand our needs.
The room was small and shabby and we didn't have a lot of stuff. It seems that they gave us the worst room in the category because we paid a promotion rate on Expedia. And that promo rate was not low - we paid as much as $324 for the Saturday night and $250 on average.
The instant coffee is awful. You can request an iron but one isn't provided. The towels are too well used and worn thin. They insisted on coming into our room for a full clean up on day 3 for hygiene reasons but they didn't even replace our used dishes with fresh ones!
We requested an upgrade, which we would pay for and made it clear that we would take it at any point of our 5-night stay, but they never tried to accommodate us. When we requested a change to a room in the same category, they simply failed to respond to the request.
The location of the hotel is excellent - it's central and there's lots to see an do in the area. If that's all you care about, stay here. If you're looking for a sanctuary when you come back from a long day of exploring busy Tokyo, don't book here.
