"Not recommended to swim in ponds in yard by owners Check In book. Lots of mosquitoes. Tv in primary would not stay on. Road in front is busy from kids doing burn outs every night. BBQ was broke. Otherwise it is as pictured. Had fun going to Volcano. Kona side was nice and warm."

"Exceptional location across from Richardson Beach, with easy access to a number of other beaches on the main road (with excellent skorkeling and with sea turtles in the lagoons), 10 minute drive to downton Hilo and a direct 50-minute drive to the Volcanoes National Park. We spent four days hiking in the park, every day at the beach, and short drives to four different waterfalls. The owner also responded very quickly to our minor request for additional supplies. The descriptions on VRBO website accurately represent the house, including the covered deck with views of the sunrise each morning and the bedrooms on the main floor and on the lower level. As indicated, there is no inside access to the main floor from that lower level, but that did not present any problem: both levels have superioir bed and bedding and bathroom facilities. Our family of six hopes to return to Hilo, and we definitely would rent the Surfrider house if at all possible. The location, condition of both upper and lower levels, and the owner's availability make this rental ideal for exploring Hilo and the surroundings and for wonderful days on the nearby beaches."

"It is a great location, and about the right size for two of us. I did not read the description well enough, and did not realize that it is not air conditioned. It was a little warm, and we had some trouble sleeping. Otherwise, we were very happy with it. It was great to be able to just go downstairs and walk into the little protected tidepools and use the snorkeling gear that is in the bin on the patio."

"We had a great time. This is a wonderful location next to the park. This is our 3rd time staying in the complex. There is a gate in the back to access the park. Turtles are always visiting there. If you like the out doors and wildlife; we have seen wild pigs, mongoose, geckos, lizards, all kinds of birds, and the most wonderful frogs that sing to you at night. The views from the balcony is amazing. It was nice to have items left in the refrigerator and shelves. The kitchen is well stocked. I recommend that you check the supplies before going grocery shopping. Even without air conditioning, there is a great breeze coming through the doors and windows. I prefer not using air. The bed was very comfortable. The local people are very friendly. Parking is easy."

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: If you’re looking for a cozy home to stay in, away from the busy streets, with the sounds of the tropical forest, the rain hitting the tin roof and the crickets at night. This is your place! The home was on a very quiet street, (aside from the neighbours dog barking, on occasion) it was peaceful. The home had basic items, plenty of plates/cups. Coffee was not provided on arrival so we had to go back to the store to buy some. (Not a big deal though) Windows could have been cleaned, and a bit more housekeeping would have been nice. (There was beer caps in the cutlery drawer from the last guests). Otherwise, the home had many positives-cute furniture and decor, beach chairs, toys, patio furniture, etc. We were super thankful for the fans in the home too!"

It is a great location, as well, right next to Carlsmith Beach. We ended up spending more time at Onekahakaha Beach (1 mile away) because it was great for young kids. The unit has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The unit was impeccably clean, too."
