"We have stayed at Casa Roland a half dozen times over the years. It’s by far the best appointed accommodation in Golfito proper. Situated in the historic old American Zone (where Chiquita Banana executives lived) it is charming and has the best pool complex in the area. The restaurant is also very good. "Staff said we were not allowed to adjust the air conditioner lower than 75°F (26°C). They said the air conditioning would motion detect if there were people in the room and if there was movement then you could adjust the AC to whatever you’d like. However, this was untrue for us. We would set the AC to 68°F/20°C, then be relaxing for 3 minutes, and the AC would automatically jump back to 75°F/26°C. We were in a puddle of sweat every night, so it was difficult to sleep. Teilweise war das Zimmer ein klein wenig heruntergekommen/wenig gewartet.
Das Personal beim Einchecken war okay.

Aber das Frühstück war schwierig. Es begann um 7 Uhr, wir waren auch um 7 Uhr dort. Nur eine Mitarbeiterin nahm die Bestellungen auf.
Es dauerte viel zu lang, wir saßen dort fast über eine Stunde. Geht leider gar nicht!"
"The Drake Bay Getaway was an unexpected delight! Views from the room were exquisite, as each villa is perched on a hillside with an ocean view. The manager was extremely helpful and spent time explaining about the surrounding area and animal life. We felt as if we were staying with family!
Meals were beautifully prepared, offering a sampling of the local food. The location was great too, allowing for quiet relaxation, yet still convenient for activities."

I did not realize that the rooms did not have A/C, so things were hot the first night (reception closed at 8:00), but they were able to get me another fan the second night l, which made things better. Overall, we really enjoyed the stay which included access to a local swimming hole which was very refreshing.

"Das Hotel ist etwas abseits gelegen, dadurch aber mitten in einer grünen Oase. Wir haben dort Tukane und andere tolle Vogelarten gesehen. Der Ausblick vom Zimmer oder vom riesigen Pool aufs Meer ist absolut beeindruckend. Im Vergleich zu den anderen Hotels auf unserer Reise war das zweite Bett im Zimmer recht klein.
Das Frühstück war sehr gut mit selbstgemachter Marmelade. Der Kaffee hat besonders gut geschmeckt. Und auch hier hatte man einen tollen Blick.

"House was exactly as advertised and had a great view. There was a berry tree in front of the house and every day two red Macaws would perch there followed by two toucans. The breakfast was great and you can walk down the stairs right to the beach. The only drawback was the hike up to the house, but everything else was perfect."

"It was a beautiful place to stay right on the beach with the sound of the waves crashing and the birds chirping. Very close to restaurants and all of the tours and the host was awesome and very accommodating! Highly recommend!"

We booked a table on the first evening and it wasn't ready when we arrived, with the staff seeming stressed at our arrival. We were sat down 15 minutes late and the food took over an hour to arrive, during which time we were not visited once by the staff...
