"Perfect location for our family. The home was just right for what we needed. The beach is a short walk (just watch out for cacti till you get to the sand). The view from the top floor is unbeatable, as we got to watch dolphins jump and sailboats go by while we sipped our coffee and had breakfast at the table. The house does need some updating, and there were some stains on the ceiling in the kitchen, but it was everything we needed to enjoy time together. "

"House was great, nice pool and hot tub. Could have used some upkeep / weeding to get through the dunes. It was a very long walk to the beach with kids so bring a wagon but overall a really great stay! "

"We absolutely loved our stay at Slice of Heaven. We had a large group consisting of 7 kids ranging from ages 3 to 16 and 5 adults. There was sufficient space for all and the main level layout was perfect for meals and game nights. The home was very clean and had everything we needed. The hot tub was a nice treat and the view from this house could not be beat! The kids enjoyed fishing from the dock and the neighborhood basketball goal and corn hole set. We did walk to the beach on the first day just to get a lay of the land, but drove every other time because of all of the items needed to support such a large group at the beach. It was a super easy drive and we never had a problem with parking. Nags Head was close enough to experience by a short 45 minute drive and far enough that we felt the serenity of being in a less populated area. We cannot wait for our next OBX trip!"

We stayed with kids ranging from 1 to 19, and somehow everyone had an amazing time (which says a lot!). The home is spotless, spacious, and thoughtfully designed for comfort and connection. There’s something for everyone! The kitchen is fully stocked, beds are super comfortable, and the layout makes it easy to gather or spread out. We cooked big meals in the fully equipped kitchen, watched sunsets from the deck, and made the kind of memories you always hope to make on vacation. And the host? Incredible. Communication was fast, friendly, and helpful throughout. We felt taken care of every step of the way.This wasn’t just a rental—it felt like home. "Salvo itself is stunning, but the Lazy Whale’s poor upkeep, broken amenities, and lackluster service turned our long-anticipated getaway into a series of frustrations and extra expenses. We cannot recommend this rental for families seeking a worry-free, clean, or relaxing beach vacation.Pulling up, the cottage’s coastal feel and dune backdrop looked exactly like the photos. But inside, reality quickly unraveled. So unkept. Surfaces were sticky, floors were dirty, and cupboards grimy. I spent our first two hours driving to Dollar General for cleaning supplies and scrubbing rather than relaxing. Just what you want to do on vacation, right?We’d prepaid 600 to heat the pool, to find it bone-chilling cold. The manager assured us it was warming up, but even days later, it remained frigid. Meanwhile, the kitchen’s filthiness and missing basics and others poorly kept, forced us to rely on paper plates and costly takeout, blowing our meal budget.The game room contributed to fizzling our fun; a dartboard without darts & a foosball table without balls. After requesting, some foosballs dropped, but no darts. Then it got nasty. Just 36 hours in, we discovered a bug infestation; pest control confirmed months of cleaning neglect in the kitchen cupboards. We spent vacation time cleaning up bugs each day. On day five, we learned from the pool provider that the pool heater had never been activated and the jet filters failed from irregular maintenance. No refunds or remedies. Don't book."
