The history of the airfield from 1916 and it's use by the RAF and civil airlines.

Manston started its Aviation days as a Royal Naval Station in 1916, with a base at Westgate Bay for seaplanes. The early airfield was on the area now occupied by the passenger terminal.

By 1917 Manston airfield had grown to include four underground hangars, its own railway line to Birchington, a power station to generate electricity, barracks for 3,000 men and even an indoor swimming pool.

After WW1, training of airmen in airframe maintenance and engine repairs was taught in the School of Technical Training.

1940 and WW2 brought the Battle of Britain. Barnes Wallis arrived in 1943 to test his bouncing bomb at nearby Reculver, before the Dam busters carried out their famous raid. Roland Beaumont arrived with the Typhoon which came to be the most successful ground attack aircraft in WW2.

"We had a wonderful stay at Santa Magdalena with our two young children. The location is perfect - incredibly private but right on the edge of Mahon and walkable into the center of town. There are beautiful beaches less than a 15 minute drive away and lots of shops etc within a few minutes’ drive. The well maintained pool provided endless hours of fun for our family. Francisco is lovely and very responsive, replying to queries straight away and even heading out to buy a replacement coffee machine the same morning we mentioned the one in the villa was broken. Worth mentioning for anyone travelling with a family that the villa is light on accessories - no books, games, toys or pool equipment - so best to pack plenty of your own or plan to buy some at the Aldi nearby. We had a constant battle with ants in the kitchen. I’m told that’s true of a lot of homes in Menorca this time of year, especially those that are older and more rural, but a bit of sealing around the kitchen window might help. That said, it didn’t affect our enjoyment of the house and our holiday. We will definitely be back for another stay! "

Lovely weekend for a 40th Celebration

"This property is fantasic & such a great location with just a short journey into both Margate & Ramsgate. The house is in a lovely condition & beautifully furnished, with plenty to do there too. We had 9 adults staying there for a 40th Birthday celebration & we had such s great time. I would thoroughly recommend booking a stay here."

"Was a reallyhomely home. Had everthing you needed. Very clean and owner was very helpful and quick communicator. Was with daughter, grandson, brother and his wife who all enjoyed staying at the house grandson loved the garden. Would definitely use house again when going to Ramsgate again. Thank you so much."
