#LikeALocal. A free Entry event held every year in Ottery St Mary, East Devon. The Flaming Tar Barrels are carried through the streets of the town to the delight of thousands of townsfolk and visitors, something that has become very well known throughout the years.
Ottery St. Mary is internationally renowned for its Tar Barrels – the event is said to have originated in the 17th century, and is held each year. Each of Ottery’s central public houses sponsors a single barrel. Held on November 4th, the barrels are soaked with tar and are lit outside each of the pubs in turn and once the flames begin to pour out, they are hoisted up onto local people’s backs and shoulders.

"This was a superb property for a group on seven 50 somethings to use as our base for a weekend away. The property is gorgeous and very well appointed with all of the facilities you could need. "Home now after a very enjoyable weekend stay at The Imperial Hotel to celebrate a friend’s birthday and retirement. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and made us and our friends feel very welcome and not like we were ‘just another guest’. We ate in both the restaurant and bar area and the meals were a good size and tasty. Breakfast was plentiful with gluten free and milk alternatives available upon request. My husband and I will definitely be visiting this hotel again in the future. "
