Crazy Squirrels Cabin - 1st floor with one bedroom

Summary:
Crazy Squirrels is a classic cabin located in the Timberline Meadows community close to Mazama. This listing is for rental of the ground floor ONLY, with one queen bedroom. The large open plan living space looks out through the trees towards the meadows, and features a sitting area with propane stove, farmhouse dining table, and a well-organized kitchen. A bonus for winter is the large entry way for organising your winter gear and skis.

The Space:
The 1st floor unit has a Master Bedroom with a queen bed and small computer desk, bath with tub/shower, fully equipped kitchen with all modern appliances, and a breakfast bar with 4 stools. The dining area and living room are open with a wall of windows facing out to the meadow.

The living Room has two couches with a cozy gas fireplace, wireless Bose stereo system, TV with DVD player. The dining space has a large dining room table with bench seating and four chairs for group meals.

The mudroom entryway has ski racks and washer/dryer. This home has free wifi and long distance calling in the US. Crazy Squirrels is equipped with a 240V NEMA 14-50 EV charger, is conveniently located at the front of the cabin. The 1st floor sleeps 2 in a queen bed.

Timberline Meadows enjoys a prime location just 2 miles from the Mazama Store, and in winter is accessed by its very own branch of the Methow Trails groomed cross country ski, fatbike and snow shoe trail. Set back from the road (SR20) across the hay fields and backing on to National Forest Timberline Meadows enjoys a quiet location with spectacular views from the tree line.

This cabin was originally designed as a duplex. This listing is for the 1ST FLOOR ONLY. The second floor studio and loft will not be accessible if you choose this option, but will not be rented out at the same time. It is also possible to rent the entire cabin to sleep 6; please look for our separate listing for that option.

The Neighborhood:
The Timberline Meadows development, located in the Upper Methow Valley, is home to eight nightly rentals, as well as several private homes. The homes are all nestled in the trees at the edge of the National Forest. The wintertime ‘John’s Way’ cross country ski, snowshoe and fat bike trails connects Timberline Meadows to Mazama and the Upper Methow trail system (permits required), making this a great ski-in / ski-out location, away from the bustle of the Mazama trailhead but close enough to ski down to the store.

It’s a 20 minute drive to the Cutthroat Lake trailhead, 21 minutes to Washington Pass and 27 minutes to Maple Pass trailhead (*drive times according to google maps), making this a great hiking base-camp for exploring the North Cascades and for beating the crowds to the trailhead during larch season.

The Mazama Store, with its great bakery and ‘a little bit of everything good’ is just a 5 minute drive or 10 minute bike ride from the cabin, and around 20 minutes by ski (depending how fast you slide and glide). Mountain bike and ski rentals are also available in Mazama.

The old west town of Winthrop is 12 1/2 miles and around 15 minutes drive down valley, with its great shopping, bakery and dining establishments; the Shafer Museum is also worth a visit to learn about the local history. Winthrop has a fun ice skating rink and is the jumping off point for Methow Rafting’s raft and float tubing on the Methow River. Winthrop’s annual calendar of events includes the Rhythm and Blues Festival, Vintage Car Rally, Memorial Day Rodeo, and Christmas At The End Of The Road (check the town’s website for details).

Getting Around:
Getting here: May to November, from Seattle and the westside, you can drive over highway 20 and Washington Pass (check WSDOT for closures). Alternate, and winter routes from Seattle are via I90, Snoqualmie Pass and Blewett Pass, or highway 2 over Stevens Pass (check WSDOT for driving conditions). Combine these routes and you have the scenic Cascade Loop. Nearest major airport is Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (258 miles / 4.5 hrs drive).

Other Things to Note:
TWO guests are included in the nightly rental rate. Additional guests are charged at $20 per person per night. Maximum occupancy of the 1st floor only is 2.

PRICING
Please note that the nightly rental rate varies with seasons and weekdays, please enter your proposed dates for an accurate quote (some listings may show an 'average price per night' when in fact this is our minimum rate, we are working to rectify this). A weekly discount of 5%, and monthly discount of 15% is automatically applied and calculated in any quotes for this duration.

The Inn Pool - guests of our cabin may use The Inn at Mazama outdoor pool (open from Memorial Day to Labor Day) and tennis/pickleball court located at 15 Country Road in Mazama. The cost to use the pool is $10/guest/day and you should check in at the front desk before heading to the pool. The Inn also has a co-working space and private offices available to rent by the day in case you need space to work during your stay.

Great cabin, and be ready in case of high summer heat
Property was clean, dramatic inside, and provided everything we needed. For my wife and I, we just rented the downstairs, and in that case they don't rent the upstairs. The entire cabin is suitable for a larger family or group of friends (internal balcony overlooks the downstairs living room). We had a little trouble with the lockbox for checkin, but management was responsive and we got in. Be aware that there isn't air conditioning. Normally it shouldn't be needed, with the location in a shady, forested area. But it was really hot the week we were there. Several good fans were provided, which helped a lot. (Bring an extension cord to put one in the window at the entrance for cross-ventilation - the fan cord doesn't quite reach the nearest outlet). Unfortunately, materials in the cabin suggested not opening the downstairs windows at night because of bears. We ignored that the second night and were much more comfortable. (The third night we had to close up again because of a nearby forest fire smoke and ash). We weren't impacted, but noted that the policy in case of cancellation for forest fire was reasonable - something to consider anywhere near the north cascade region. All in all, a great place for my wife and I. PS - we highly recommend the Mazama Public House as a place to eat. The restaurants at the Inn at Mazama (who manages the rentals of these cabins) are no longer open, and not likely to re-open.

Great place, great location
Loved the cabin! Everything was great for our stay in Cascade NP! Great windows with great view! Didn’t have AC which wasn’t too bad since we weren’t there during the day and we opened the windows at night! Would definitely stay here again!!
