"A solid stay at this lovely hotel, which was our halfway point home after a trip to Scotland. The food quality was really good, very enjoyable, and the room was great - the bed felt like sleeping on a cloud, it was so comfortable. The only reason I haven't given it five stars is that there was room for improvement, although it was a very healthy standard and we would stay again. Our reception welcome couldn't be faulted, the staff were great. However, we waited in the lounge for our dining spot, and although there were staff seemingly not over-busy, there were plates left from other guests untouched in this area which meant it wasn't that pleasant a spot to wait. Communication at breakfast could have been better, although the breakfast was good, and we only had to ask really, but would have liked to have been told if we could have yoghurt/fruit etc from the table. The food, both at evening and breakfast sittings, was very good and worth the price, but the drinks were eyewateringly pricey! Don't let this put you off, it's a lovely place to stay and we enjoyed it. Under the management of the group managing the lovely services, we know they'll sort these very minor issues out as it was clear from the management and systems in place that they are aiming for excellence. We have every confidence they'll achieve it."

"What a magical place for us all to stay. It had a mysterious Hogwarts air about it. My 12 and 9 year absolutely loved the secret bookcase in the Royalist Apartment, the opportunity to sleep on the comfy pull out beds in the lounge area where they had access to the TV and DVDs, the grand communal room where they could play pool and chess and the little woodland path at the back where they could sit and watch the wild rabbits. Stephanie, our host. had considered everything. The accommodation was spotless and combined the old and the new beautifully. On arrival there was milk, biscuits, tea and coffee. All bedding, and towels were beautifully laundered. There was a folder full of useful information including places to walk, visit and eat. Truly wonderful and we would recommend it to anyone. Thank you very much Stephanie."

"Wonderful and well kept property. The owners were really helpful and friendly. Location was great for access to everything, the only slight negative is that it is on a main road, so if you're not used to road noise you might struggle, but we will definitely come again - the views are incredible and it had everything and more to make it a relaxing and enjoyable holiday!"

"Brookside is a great place for a quiet family break with a dog (or without!). The rooms are good sized and there is an abundance of pots, cutlery and glassware. It’s also well equipped with dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer.The bonus for Brookside is its location overlooking the village green, good for walking the dog - on a lead because of grazing sheep and lambs. Within 20 minutes you can be in Appleby and slightly longer to Penrith. It’s also good if you are attending a wedding at Holesfoot (as we were) which is 5 minutes drive away.Would we go to Brookside again? Yes, definitely!"

"The photos do not do this space justice - it is perfect for hosting large groups / families and being able to unwind in a relaxing environment.The hot tub was great, and the log burner was also a brilliant touch.We did notice some pet hair (not ours) which allergy sufferers had issue with, however we were able to clean with the tools provided.Great access to local walks."

"The apartment itself was immaculately clean, well-furnished and spacious. The kitchen is much better equipped than most rentals, with many appliances, kitchenware, staples and even knives that are actually sharp!Location-wise, it’s very convenient—just off the M6, but in a small village and under 40 minutes from the main Lake District towns.The host was proactive and responsive in communications.Because it is a historic building, the central heating is a bit limited. We visited in early April with temperatures in the low single figures and found we had to use the provided supplementary heaters. It can be a bit chilly initially, particularly if you're returning/arriving late, so it just requires a little extra management.Overall: A lovely, well-equipped base for a large family. We would definitely stay again!"
