"We had a lovely stay here--the room and breakfast were both delightful and we enjoyed the gorgeous garden. We especially appreciated how kind and welcoming Dotty was. The perfect place to stay in Winchester!"
"The Fox is an excellent B&B with attached first class dining. The staff were great about our late arrival due to M3 closure, phoning to get our breakfast order and being prepared to leave a key for us. Breakfast is one of the best in Winchester."
"A really great and unique experience that was different to the usual B&B offering. Room, breakfast and people were all excellent and would recommend a visit if in Winchester. Thanks! Neal"

"There was no tourist info or writing note paper or pencil in the room. The bathroom wash basin waste water would not drain properly. Blocked wast pipe. "
"Lovely hotel! Looks a little like a nursing home at the front, but lovely inside. Room was clean, spacious and had all the ammenities. We chrcked out at 5am to go to goodwood and the night staff were blooming lush! "
"The property was basic, as expected, but the host's behavior was shockingly unprofessional and erratic. After honestly correcting a simple booking mistake (one guest instead of two) and promptly offering payment, the host initially seemed polite but slow to respond.
Things turned serious when I accidentally locked myself out of the bedroom—without shoes or phone—and urgently contacted him via my smartwatch. He claimed he'd arrive in an hour but vanished for hours, ignoring multiple calls. Desperate and out of options, I dangerously climbed the side of the building to re-enter.
When he finally responded, it was coldly transactional: "I can come now you need to pay £30." Minutes after I politely clarified payment details, his tone became aggressive and threatening, repeatedly calling me a "coward" and threatening police involvement. He spammed me with calls, ironic considering his earlier silence during a genuine emergency. The host's erratic, manipulative behavior severely impacted our final day, leaving us stressed and anxious, rushing to avoid missing our train.
This host is unstable, intimidating, and seemingly unsafe. I strongly advise against staying here.

"The Plough is in a very picturesque area and is also very conveniently situated and easy to get to. The room was comfortable and the pub itself had a friendly feel with an excellent menu. Beside quite a busy road but it was quiet at night. Would definitely stay again if I was in the area.

Beautiful old rustic house on two acres of overlooking fields in the back garden
6/10 Okay
"Wonderful old house on great surrounds, although off a busy road. Unfortunately, kitchen not up to standard due to cleanliness and overall dirt everywhere. Oven desperately needs a good clean. Also plagued with flies seemingly living within the wall cervices. We enjoyed our stay after giving the place (kitchen in particular) a good clean."
"Very homely, beautifully decorated with interesting art work throughout, spotlessly clean, comfortable beds.We thought it might be noisy because the trains were near but it was not at all- a very quiet and peaceful location with great walks nearby. The town of Alresford with it's independent shops and plenty of choice for eating out is lovely. We ate well and reasonably at The Bell as recommended by our host. We visited Winchester using the cheap and efficient Park and Ride system. Wonderful Cathedral, interesting museums and a vibrant shopping area. . We can highly recommend the property and the area. We hope to stay again.
