"The cottage felt very welcoming when we arrived - someone put a lot of love and hard work into fitting it out. The surroundings were just breathtaking - being located right on the shore of a lock with plenty of birds flying around - and sheep in the driveway. An evening's or early morning's stroll over the rocks around the loch was a particular pleasure, and the quietness was almost tangible, broken only by the gulls screaching, the sheep bleating, and the very occasional car passing the end of the driveway 100 yards away. The remoteness also means you get a chance to talk to people - residents and other tourists - whom you would probably just walk past if you saw them at home. Overall we were very sad to leave and we hope to be back before too long."

"A wonderful bed and breakfast. Quiet, with a lovely view of the surrounding hills and farms. High quality beds with nice amenities like robes, heated towel rack, and complimentary snacks. Excellent breakfast cooked from a nice menu, with homemade bread and jam. The host is very gracious. A few minutes drive takes you to one of the island’s best restaurants. "

"Typical blackhouse accommodation, compact, but warm and cosy. Great location. The owners have made an attractive garden - unfortunately the weather was not nice enough to sit outside! Lots to do in the surrounding area, lovely walks and machair and birds."

"Just visited Taransay Cottage for the 3rd time and we've enjoyed it as much as the first time we went. It's a beautiful cottage, great location, near to beautiful beaches. We can't fault it and look forward to returning soon."

"What a property! From the moment we pulled in, we were in awe of the scenic beauty, tasteful decor, well-designed floor plan, and unbelievable attention to detail the hosts provided. Being in a more remote location with young children, we cooked every meal in the house and found the kitchen had absolutely everything we needed. Having access to laundry indoors was a huge plus, the linens were high quality, and the wood stove in the evenings was delightful. The house made such great use of natural light and has been designed to showcase the beauty of the location. We could not stop taking in those views from every room with the windows and skylights. We hated to leave and will always treasure our time at Woodenhouse!"

"This is a nice cottage that is located on the northern, western aspect of the island. The cottage was clean and larger than we needed. If you are looking for remote and quiet than this is the place for you."
