Douglas is a great place to spend a few days with its pubs and restaurants and as a point from which to explore the rest of the island. People on the island seem to go out of their way to be helpful and it has a lot of places of interest or beauty.

Douglas is typical of the Isle of Man - clean and peaceful with no trouble. Locals make you feel so welcome. You forget that it is a city feels more like a little seaside town. Even the local government make you feel welcomed.

Sadly all seaside resorts are struggling and Douglas is no exception. A range of empty shop fronts is a sign of the times. For a long weekend there are very many areas to visit and the island is easy to get from end to end, with minimal traffic.

"Needed a hotel to stay in the Isle of Man for a re-union of colleagues that I used to work with. The aim was to ride all the narrow gauge trains and trams on the Island and do some walking. The Claremont was a really choice. I only had bed and breakfast; the breakfast's were really good as was my hotel room. No sea view but as I was out all day, it wasn't a problem. The cost was very competitive and even cheaper than some three star hotels!"
"The guest house was in a good location just off the promenade. Room was spotless and in very good condition. Bed was very comfortable and made daily. Room was well appointed. Breakfast each morning was high quality and everything was freshly made. Dora the proprietor was very attentive and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble if needed some assistance. The hotel has kept its early years character whilst implementing modern touches to compliment the decor.
