"This property offered value for money - it was cheap. In its heyday, it must have been a very nice hotel but maintenance has fallen behind over the years. The common areas are fine but the rooms and exterior/grounds are very tired and badly need to be updated. Perhaps the owners can't afford it - there were only 4 guests booked in on the night we stayed."

"Disappointing Stay – Not as Advertised This hotel looked great in the Expedia photos, but upon arrival, it was a completely different story—false advertising at its finest. The property looked nothing like the pictures, and mosquitoes were a major issue throughout our stay. Right away, we encountered problems with the hot water in our room. "We stayed for two weeks in The Kingsbury and it was incredible. It was our first time in Sri Lanka and we chose to stay in The Kingsbury because we were attending a wedding there. The service was amazing, the staff cannot do enough for you; holding doors open for you before you get to them, wishing you well every time you see them, cooking off-the-menu items to suit dietary requirements. The food was delicious in all the restaurants we tried. We booked to have breakfast included but we had a few excursions planned which meant leaving before 6am. We spoke to reception and they arranged for us to have a take away breakfast. Our towels didn’t get replaced one of the days but if that’s all we have to complain about in two weeks, that’s pretty good going. We would highly recommend The Kingsbury if you are planning on visiting Sri Lanka."
