"I stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment and had a wonderful time with my daughter. The place is beautiful, just like the pics. I loved the balcony (even though I didn’t enjoy it because we were always out, it was nice to have). The location was perfect. You can walk to historic district, local market, the park. The best part was having a washer/dryer. I love being able to come home with clean clothes."

Where to stay in Cuenca

Find the best Cuenca areas and neighborhoods for the activities you enjoy most.

San Sebastián

Step back in time at San Sebastián, a UNESCO World Heritage neighborhood in Cuenca. The white-washed colonial church anchors this authentic district where cobblestone streets lead past artisan workshops and the Museum of Modern Art. Traditional Cuencan life thrives among historic architecture and red-tiled roofs. The neighborhood centers around its peaceful plaza where locals gather throughout the day. Mountain views frame this residential haven while nearby Tomebamba River offers scenic walking paths. Most historic Cuenca attractions remain within a 15-minute walk despite the challenging terrain.

El Barranco

El Barranco charms visitors with its scenic riverside setting along the Tomebamba River in Cuenca. Colonial buildings with colorful balconies perch above the water's edge. This UNESCO World Heritage district connects the historic center with modern Cuenca through pedestrian-friendly promenades. Riverside cafés offer perfect spots to relax after wandering the neighborhood's cobblestone streets.

Small convenience stores and neighborhood eateries close early, reflecting the family-oriented lifestyle. Travelers will appreciate the affordable accommodation options while experiencing genuine middle-class Ecuadorian suburban living.

Downtown Cuenca

Discover UNESCO-listed Downtown Cuenca, where cobblestone streets lead to twin cathedrals and colonial mansions. Blue domes rise above Parque Calderón while artisan markets showcase Panama hats and traditional Ecuadorian crafts. The Tomebamba River borders this pedestrian-friendly district. Museums house archaeological treasures and colonial art collections throughout the historic center. Explore on foot to find hidden courtyards, wrought-iron balconies, and local bakeries with tempting aromas. Mountain air keeps this cultural gem refreshingly cool at 8,500 feet elevation.

Cuenca Historic Center

Step back in time at Cuenca Historic Center, a UNESCO World Heritage site where cobblestone streets wind past colonial treasures. The towering New Cathedral stands proudly beside the 16th-century Old Cathedral in Parque Calderon. Colorful craft markets showcase Panama hat weavers and Indigenous artisans working beneath wrought-iron balconies. The pedestrian-friendly district makes exploration a delight with museums and plazas within easy walking distance. Visit the Monastery of El Carmen and vibrant Flower Market to experience local culture. The peaceful Tomebamba River forms the district's edge, offering scenic pathways and beautiful bridges.

"It is a very cute hotel in the center of of Cuenca's historic district close to very good restaurants. The neighborhood is safe and clean. That being said, it is a busy loud area and my room had a street side balcony. So if you have sleep issues this isn't a good choice for you. The amenities were few but I did appreciate being able to refill my water. Also, I found the cats adorable but if you are allergic you need to be aware of them."

"What a fantastic hotel! I had an amazing stay and truly enjoyed every moment. The rooms were beautiful, spacious, spotless, and very comfortable. The food was delicious, with a great variety of options. The best part was the staff. Every employee was incredibly friendly, professional, and attentive. They went above and beyond to make sure I had a wonderful experience, and their excellent service made my stay even more enjoyable. The only small issue was that the hallway lights shined into the room at night, making it a little difficult to sleep. Even though there were curtains, they didn’t completely block the light. I hope this can be improved because everything else was absolutely perfect. I highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again!"
