Not so typical Andalusian village - Castellar is built inside a castle. It was abandoned in the 70s by locals who went to live in a new town outside the castle walls. Later abandoned buildings were occupied by German hippies. Now the village inside the castle is populated mostly by expats, artists and retirees. The pool and fully air conditioned villa provided welcome respite from the August heat when needed and the patio furniture enabled family card games and al fresco dining in the early evening. "The property was exactly as the photographs, clean, spacious with all facilities in working order. the location was perfect - easy to find, views were fantastic, ambience peaceful. We were met on arrival with the keys. There were balconies for the bedrooms, many 'day beds' in bedrooms which facilitated singles. Pool was cleaned after we arrived. We had an open log fire when it was cold, and made use of BBQ on warmer days. We are all planning to return."

Cons: Der Pool wäre noch angenehmer gewesen, wenn er beheizt gewesen wäre. So hätte man auch bei den milden Temperaturen im Dezember ein entspanntes Schwimmvergnügen genießen können."

"Lovely well equipped villa with beautiful views, quiet location and excellent responsive host. We would definitely return. The property is close to Estepona but a car would be needed. Thanks to Alex for helping sort a few teething problems out quickly and effectively."

"Villa is up a very steep road and visitors probably should be aware of that. Was very well kitted out and ideal for our needs as a group of 8 golfers. Having two z beds in one bedroom seems a bit penny pinching. Should be proper beds. Little tired and needing a bit of an upgrade."

"We had a great week staying at the villa. The views are amazing and we had everything we needed for our holiday. I'd advise any guests with a large car to avoid driving through the village - you can park near the bus stop on the main road and it's less than a 10 min walk. "

"Just returned from a ten-day break at the Estepona Plaza and can't praise the hotel enough. The whole team including Miguel, Genesis, Lydia and Maria in housekeeping looked after us from start to finish. For those looking for a hotel in the heart of the old town, you really can't go wrong, the beach is on your doorstep and it is only a short walk into the mazy streets of Estepona. This is the second time we have stayed here and would really recommend the hotel for anyone visiting Estepona."
