Not so typical Andalusian village - Castellar is built inside a castle. It was abandoned in the 70s by locals who went to live in a new town outside the castle walls. Later abandoned buildings were occupied by German hippies. Now the village inside the castle is populated mostly by expats, artists and retirees. "The room itself, and what appeared to be the only one lady staff member were excellent and very attentive. The hotel felt more like an institution rather than a bright and open welcoming building too far away from restaurants and other amenities. And as a result way too overpriced. I have stayed in hotels in Estopana at half the price were more pleasant."

"Just returned from a ten-day break at the Estepona Plaza and can't praise the hotel enough. The whole team including Miguel, Genesis, Lydia and Maria in housekeeping looked after us from start to finish. For those looking for a hotel in the heart of the old town, you really can't go wrong, the beach is on your doorstep and it is only a short walk into the mazy streets of Estepona. This is the second time we have stayed here and would really recommend the hotel for anyone visiting Estepona."
