"The room was fine, not exceptional, for me, as I was only staying for 6 nights. I hadn't booked breakfast as it was only offered on a Sunday, but there is a "Sandwich Stop" attached to the hotel in the car park. Parking was adequate, but trying to exit onto the busy main road was a nightmare, as the hedges were so overgrown and hadn't been trimmed, so it was impossible to see traffic approaching from both directions. "This was hands down the friendliest hotel we have ever stayed in. The staff was extremely kind, helpful, and cheery. They made us feel at home and went above and beyond to accommodate us. The wait staff was exceptional as well. The food was excellent, the setting idyllic, and location walkable to The Chatsworth House! We could not wait to write a glowing review as we cannot recommend this hotel enough! We suggest you give your entire staff a raise as they were top notch and whoever hired them...

"Check in was no frills. We arrived half an hour before check in and was offered a room but for an extra fee. I accidentally booked the room for one person so had to pay an extra £12 for breakfast which was fair enough but on check out an additional £10 for the extra person which I thought was unfair."

"Our room on the second floor was clean and had blinds to keep out the light at night. It was adequate but, no doubt to keep in style with being the oldest hotel in Great Britain, it wishes to retain an oldie worldie charm so the decor may appear outdated. Our bathroom could do with a revamp as the toilet seat was loose and one of the shower heads was leaking and wouldn't stay in position. "The room was spacious and clean but the air con didn’t work and the room was 27 degrees all night. There was basically no staff on hand and the ones that were there were overworked and not available for the most part. The meal in the evening was almost inedible the £30 steak was all gristle and I ordered a cheesy garlic bread which I came as a normal one, when I mentioned it to the waiter they didn’t do anything. When I asked for the bill I had to wait 30 minutes and also ask another waiter,...

"In general the hotel was of a good standard the food was very good at breakfast I feel that it lacked choice and beverages should of been more accessible. The bedroom was of a very good standard but lacked a blind so that the curtains could be open and still have privacy where as now once the curtains are open there is no privacy and people can look in from the car park. The shower area could do with a shelf for the shampoo and body wash or dispenser."

"Room was adequate, the heated towel rail was on the other side of the bedroom wall so the bedroom was uncomfortably hot, even at night - but the wife preferred this. The bed was quite firm and a good size. It was difficult to view the TV screen from the settee on the back wall. Tea (Yorkshire) and coffees were plentiful - not so much biscuits. Full English, plus cereals, juice, toast and tea/coffee refills welcome."

"Our stay was a journey down memory lane for me. The hotel was still lovely and popular, the room was clean and albeit small as a twin, it was in keeping with such a historic building and the lady on the bar, who checked us in couldn’t be more welcoming. The kitchen even catered amazingly for a veggie and a vegan option breakfast. The hotel is centrally located for the beautiful village of Eyam’s history trail, tea rooms and local walks with good parking facilities. "
