"The Captain's Retreat was the perfect home away from home for our family trip to Maine. The house was exactly as pictured, very comfortable, relaxing, full of character and well equipped. "The house was nice and the owner was great to deal with, she provided a lot of local knowledge on things to do. I will say that it is on a surprisingly busy road. But the horses were great and the family loved to give them apple slices and carrots. Overall I would recommend it to anyone looking for something like this. Also it’s not too far from Bar Harbor and Arcadia."

As with most older homes with older furnishings there is always extra mantenance needed over the years (having grown up in a house in Uk that was Elizabethan at one end and Georgian at the other I can attest to that!) "What an incredible place! From the moment we arrived, to the moment we left- we felt like we were just there visiting family. Check-in was super straight-forward and easy, and the layout of the house immediately made sense. Being tucked away in a slower paced area was a good break from our busy visits to Bar Harbor.
