The hosts are great; they were very responsive whenever we had issues during our nearly 3 week stay with two small children under four years old. The house is in a spectacularly scenic area and is very spacious. The kitchen is well-stocked and we had everything we needed to cook at the house. The piano was really cool and was a big hit. The outdoor porch, fire pit, and grill are great and we enjoyed using them every night! The house is centrally located to many scenic areas.
That being said, it wasn't a great fit for us having small children, especially a crawler! There are lots of hazards in the house including a steep, slippery staircase and the TV stand isn't very secure.
We had issues with field mice and bugs throughout our stay. We saw mice running across the floor the first two nights of our stay and eventually caught one that had chewed through the internet cable, leaving us without internet until we were able to find a replacement cable. We had to run to the hardware store and set out mouse poison and sticky traps, which became another set of hazards for our crawling daughter. The host was apologetic in regards to the issue, but we got the impression that pest control is a recurring challenge with this property.
The floors beneath the registers are really dirty, with lots of dust, bugs, hair, and crumbs. We gave the floor a thorough cleaning ourselves and were surprised how much dirt we picked up right at the beginning of the stay. We also washed some of the sofa slipcovers, which did not feel or smell clean. We needed to do some regular housekeeping throughout our visit. It would be great to see a few upgrades (a better vacuum, shelving and a better shower head in the downstairs bathroom, etc.) to facilitate longer-term stays.
We were disappointed in the overall level of cleanliness in the house and the pest issues were frustrating to manage. We would not consider this house kid-friendly if you have children under 5 years old.
