"The hotel is perfectly placed in the centre of York and easy to get to. The staff were lovely and were able to accommodate giving us a lower-level room, which was so helpful (especially when pregnant in a heatwave!). There were lots of options available in the mini bar as well as teas, coffees, etc. The room was very comfortable and clean - we will definitely return next time we come to York."

"The staff and location were amazing. The AC unit in the room didn’t work, and trying to sleep during a heat wave was impossible. Fans were in the room for our use, but it barely helped. Not all the windows opened, so trying to get cool air in the room was challenging."

"The room wasn't very clean (quite a lot of dust), and there were random quilts in random cupboards (not clean ones), and the bedroom window was painted shut, which was frustrating during a heat wave. There were a few unidentified noises of water sloshing or pouring from somewhere, both in the corner of the bedroom and in the bathroom, possibly due to being near a boiler, or just some residue from pipework. "Our family of 3 loved this place! It sits above a pub, room was clean and inviting, and the complimentary breakfast was top notch. Not your run of the mill continental breakfast, but a sit down, order from an extensive menu kind of meal. Everyone here was so friendly and helpful and the location was convenient to the town’s landmarks. Would definitely stay here again!"

"Cleanliness is was ok. Be prepared that is old!!! Uneven steps, no elevator, no air conditioning or room fridge! Historic is great, but none of the comforts of home. Cold attitude toward guests! Did accommodate with a fan, but that wasn’t much help. Request for ice - one glass with 4 ice cubes!"

"Breakfast had funny taste first day, decent second day. Front entrance mat extremely grubby and this is what welcomes you. Peeling paint, dead flower pots and no hanging baskets at front. Carpets dirty around bed, defiant tracks. Couple we was with had stayed there before, said it had definitely gone down hill with all the above mentioned plus they used to have homemade loafs of bread and jams and yogurts where much betțer on the whole seemed to be cutting costs and corners. "Hotel was perfect for our needs, outside the centre but just a 10 minute walk away from it so quiet on a night. Clean well maintained bedroom with a lovely shower. The staff were so friendly and helpful, they went over and above to help us. The hotel was so good we're thinking of going back later in the year."

"Really great hotel with so much attention to detail. Record players in the room and a huge selection of records is a really nice touch. The Radio was on when we arrived to our room and the Pantry is generous & a really unique touch. Canadian lady on the Bar was knowledgeable & super friendly (Pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the extensive bar menu was priced). Just really really cool & great location."

"Wunderschöne, gemütliche und saubere Unterkunft! Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Es war sehr ruhig und das Frühstück reichhaltig. Unser Elektroauto konnten wir unproblematisch und mit transparentem Preis laden. Die Lage ist sehr gut, da man in 5 Minuten zu Fuß in der Altstadt ist. Wir würden die Unterkunft definitiv erneut buchen."
