"It was nice but for the money the bed was tiny and it was noises on the weekend. Little bit dates considering it’s 4stars."

"My friend and I had a girlie two night break at this hotel and loved it. When we arrived the receptionist noticed I was using a walking aid and unprompted started looking to change our room to an accessible room eliminating needing to use stairs. We were very touched by his thoughtfulness. It was an upgrade to a suite which was outstanding and it really enhanced our comfort and experience. We had a sitting room (with verandah) which was very comfortable and well equipped with a coffee maker,...

"Location was great. Breakfast fine. Front desk staff can improve "

"We stayed in the Bootham suite, the room was light and airy and had a lovely small balcony to enjoy the sunshine. The four poster bed was very comfy and there was a small seating area to relax in. Breakfast was very good, everything is a la carte and the staff were very attentive. The hotel is in a great location, very easy walking distance into York but also very quiet and peaceful. The Pantry is a really nice touch but it was a shame that there wasn't a fridge in the room to keep drinks cool....

"Plenty of parking. All facilities were available (pool, spa golf etc) at an extra cost but I didn't use. Room looked out on to a brick wall and outdoor plumbing, but I assume this is because I didn't book directly with the hotel. Grounds were immaculate but not visible from our room. Didn't have breakfast so cannot comment but it smelled good!"

"Some refurbishment going on but this did not interfere with our stay. The breakfast was excellent as was the evening meal. The bar was well stocked and a marvelous selection of spirits. The room was very well maintained and comfortable. "

"On arrival the staff were very helpful however when after being given our room we were appalled at the condition, especially the bathroom. The furniture was old and dated, the mattress and pillows hard, but it was the bathroom that dismayed us the most. There was black mold on the ceiling and extractor fan, the floor was uneven due to the lino was separating from the wooden floor. The taps on the sink needed replacing and the shower controls didn't work. To sum up the bathroom wanted gutting....

"I liked the history of the property, the location, the bar and dining facilities and the general layout was interesting with additional buildings connected by walkways. The staff were very helpful and polite. I would definitely use this hotel again."

"Friendly staff"

"Breakfast was good. Orange juice was very cheap though - not freshly squeezed. Old part of the building is very impressive. Charging for a small bottle of water in the room is unacceptable. Hotel could do with a gym as well."
