"Staff were friendly and helpful. Lift was out of order for all of our stay which was not good as I have arthritis in both knees, left hip and right shoulder. There were a lot of stairs - this spoilt the holiday slightly for me"
"Our room was large and nicely decorated. However, our room had a strong damp smell I believe partly from the bathroom. I know that property was old but neither of the windows in the bathroom opened and their wooden plank sealing the fireplace looked a little damp and dusty."
"Overall an excellent location, staff and facilities. The grounds and gardens are large and very well kept. Only minor items to address are that it took some time for breakfast orders to be taken so had to wait a long time and result in toast and tea getting cold. Pool area could do with a little more lighting as it felt very dull."
"Second stay here. Fab place, full of character and quirkiness
Great location!
Great staff, though could do with a couple more as only 3 working in a very busy pub...and they worked hard and with a smile 😃
Seemed a little less loved this time, sadly, like a bit of paint was needed, but still a great place!"
"A lovely stay in Alnwick in September 2026. We had a large room with a view of the castle.
Breakfast was very good as were the evening meal options. Staff were all friendly, helpful and seemed very competent."
"Just back from a lovely stay at the Black Bull Inn. Staff were friendly and welcoming it's in a lovely location for parking and amenities. We had the luxury of staying in room 14 which featured a four poster bed, the room was lovely and the breakfast was amazing thank you cant wait to visit again."
"Fantastic 2 night stay in the family room with our 20 month old daughter. Friendly staff, convenient parking, lovely food and drinks, and a delicious breakfast. We had a great stay and would definitely recommend and return!"
"The receptionist was so helpful, really made the stay. She explained about the dog which was helpful and really added to the experience ahead of the GNR"
"Lovely welcome. Great food in the evening. Comfy bed and quirky clean room with fluffy white towels. Superb breakfast. Highly recommend this historical inn. Thank you."
"We had a very comfortable stay at the wheatsheaf in Swindon, staff were friendly and welcoming, a bar that was open for drinks and places to sit and relax. Our room was comfortable although window wouldn’t stay open to let in fresh air as it was a warm day outside. Our even meal was delicious with a good choice of menu. Breakfast was also good and the service was swift. a great start to our day. All in all an enjoyable stay would revisit this hotel again in the future."
"I stayed in the dog friendly room which was ok but not great. The carpets were stained and when we first walked in the room we could smell dog it wasn't a fresh smell. There was a half used toilet roll in our bathroom and no fan so it steamed up quite quickly. The room was at the bottom of the beer garden so was very noisy which wasn't that much of a problem.
We ordered food it was very fast and efficient, large portions and reasonably priced. The sun was in the beer garden all day. Staff very...
