"A beautiful setting. The parkland with peacocks and chickens was great to walk around with our dog. Rooms spacious and clean with good facilities and restaurant food excellent. Staff were super friendly and helpful - a great place to stay especially as a base for walking/visiting the Lake Distrct."
"As a first time visitor to the Borrowdale Gates Hotel I have to say what a wonderful experience. The location was perfect with access to many hiking trails. The staff were pleasant and very attentive to our needs, the facilities including the restaurant were excellent, serving very high quality food. "Booked a double room but got a room with 3 single beds. Not the end of the world but not what I booked.
Beds were uncomfortable. Mattress was really thin, when you sat on it you were basically sat on the bed base and when you laid on the bed you could feel the springs in your back and side.
The walls were wafer thin, you can hear the tap running and toilet etc from the room next door. Also the water in the bathroom made a right racket when you ran the tap, shower or flushed the toilet.

"I've stayed at the Trout a number of times, it is a pretty, well maintained hotel with lots of character and ideally placed to explore Cockermouth, the Western Lakes and the national park. The food is good and the staff are professional and very friendly."

Spent Christmas with my teenage daughter and dog at Maple Bank and it was the most wonderful few days! Kate is a super host, making sure everything was perfect for our stay. Most gorgeous guest house, amazing breakfasts and the best cake in the afternoons.

"What a perfect place to stay. Room was large and comfortable. Emiko was a lovey host full of great suggestions on what to do locally. Breakfast was very tasty but the real added extra was the on site bar with what seemed like 100s of different whiskeys which Emiko was very knowledgable on and happy to help you find one to enjoy.
