While driving to South Padre Island to #optoutside and welcome the new year, I found this little gem in a tiny detour. Mr Newman, the owner of Newman Castle, built the castle himself with the help of one other person. It took him ten years to move in (he actually lives there) and now he opens the doors of his home to people. I arrived right at the perfect time when he was starting the tour. He dubbed me Dame Maribeth with his sword (I don't think he ever heard of a Maribel before). The place is amazing and he even gave us water, sandwiches, donuts, and cookies. Before leaving, Mr Newman opened a tiny treasure chest and gave me a tiny "gold nugget" in payment for helping him guard his castle from enemy invasion. The entire time, I carried a wooden sword he gave me at the beginning of the tour. It was a nice a little pleasant surprise.
