"I don’t know where to start. The place has electronic access and more surveillance than most hotels. It is a lovely old loggia close to Firenze Sta Maria Novello and a 10 min walk from the heart of Florence. You can’t beat this place. Windows opening to the street. Great, clean shared facilities. Warning: rooms are great but modest. Do not expect MW or fridge. Otherwise they have all you need to visit this beautiful place."

Later in the week, soap was entirely used up, but no replacement soap left by the maid. I was gone every morning, returning late at night. When I asked for more soap, I was basically told one was enough. I was shocked, and repeated specifically "one little soap for a week", answer was yes. "Hotel Merlini is a beautiful and unique stay! My girlfriend and I stayed for 3 nights and loved our room, the rustic Tuscan decor and the family who run the hotel are so hospitable and friendly, we didn't want to leave! The location is so central in Florence, recommend very highly!"

After a long walk up several flights of rundown stairs, we were made to wait outside the hotel enterance until the owner turned up half an hour later.
