"We enjoyed our stay VERY much!! What a quaint hotel with a lot of history. Conveniently located downtown next to the locks and viewing area. Our room was exceptionally comfortable, spacious, and clean!! I LOVE the fact that our room on the 6th (top) floor only had 10 rooms as did the 5th floor. Very quiet!! The hotel staff was very friendly especially the front desk clerk at check in on July 3 and the bartender on the 4th of July! Someone was always cleaning….floors, windows, etc. We noticed and probably due to high volume of visitors for the 4th of July: no air conditioning in the lobby or bar and the breakfast items were sparse each morning. Another observation….we thought it strange to have a label (posted on the 6th floor) stating one must hold button to call the elevator."

"The parking is a little tight when there are larger work trucks parked there with the normal cars and trucks. The staff was helpful when we asked about the locks and which freighters were coming. We didn't take advantage of the breakfast. The room was clean but the air conditioner made quite a bit of noise while running. It is a good place to stay with reasonable rates for an overnight stay."

The Last Resort

"I always say that for those who are traveling to Michigan’s UP that they should not expect luxury. With that said, The Last Resort should be some folks first option when looking for a place to stay. It represented the UP perfectly. The office combos as a bait and tackle shop, and a friendly dog was there to greet us at the door. The room was perfectly simple. Clean floors, fresh paint, and a comfortable, quality king size bed. The room was very decently sized. It had a dining table, dresser, and a twin size bed we didn’t use. Bathroom was newly renovated and clean. All that you could ask for in a stay in the UP. Would absolutely recommend."
