"The only reason i gave this hotel four stars is that i had to go for the cheapest room. Had only one Tiny window and that doesn't help if you need light for work. I'm sure more expensive rooms were great, I just didn't had a chance to experience it. Restaurant was outstanding. And staff ... beypnd expectations. They will go not only an extra mile for you, but ten miles. I felt welcomed and important."

The Commercial Hotel

"I really enjoyed my one night stay at the Commercial Hotel. The room was clean and comfortable and the hot, lush shower a delight after a week’s camping in the Cairngorms. The food was also good, both at dinner and breakfast. The staff were all very friendly, and Martin - who seemed to be in charge - was very efficient. There was ample free car parking behind the hotel. Overall the Commercial Hotel has the feel of a traditional Scottish inn, right at the heart of its community with a very lively bar. All in all, a great stay - I’ll be back!"

Douneside House

"We stayed in one of the offsite casa style rooms which was perfect for our family (we were parents travelling with two teenagers). Room was clean and had all we needed for our two night stay. We appreciated the afternoon scones and tea in the main hotel. We were surprised that our rooms didn’t have any housekeeping between our first and second nights so I’m not sure if that was part of the casa room service or not but our request for addition towels was taken care of quickly!"

Haughton Arms Hotel

"What a find from the minute we arrived the friendly staff couldn’t have been more helpful. The food was homemade and delicious and breakfast was brilliant with a big choice"

The Boat Inn

"Excellent stay, been here a couple of times now. Food is great - breakfast gives plenty of options for all tastes (full Scottish to granola and fruit). Lunch and dinner and good pub style offerings. Rooms are generally a good size and nicely decorated. Some rooms can be a bit noisy depending on where you are in the property. Rooms downstairs at the front of the boat house ( the building on the other side of the car park to the main building/pub/restaurant) are quieter whereas rooms at the back and upstairs you can hear guests in other rooms."

Leslie Castle

"We loved staying at the Leslie Castle. John & Nicole were great. We came by train and then planned to go by Uber to the Castle and found the one driver was on holiday. John & Nicole were so gracious to come and pick us up. Food was great. Nicole does a history of the castle after dinner each night which was so enjoyable and a tour of the castle. Our room was huge and we loved every minute of it. We walked to the little Hamlet of Leslie and met some of the locals. The weather was great and we just enjoyed ourselves so much. I know that you will not be disappointed if you are looking for a "Castle Experience"!"

Strathburn Hotel Inverurie by Compass Hospitality

"Good location, rooms clean & comfy if a little dated. Staff lovely and helpful , with receptionist also tending bar unfortunately no evening meals available during our stay ."

The Lodges at Barra Castle

8/10 Good

"The lodge was very nice, clean and tastefully presented. We did not meet the owners so cannot score them. Only negative was working out where our parking space was, creaky upstairs floorboards making the double bedroom noisy, not very warm water for showering and lack of laundry facilities - the reason I booked self catering for a mid week stay was to enable me to wash clothes but I was unable to find a machine and no mention of laundry in the owners guide. Complimentary food basket was excellent."
