2) a significant number of cobwebs around the corners of the room, ceilings and floors

"Sadly, this was a bad experience. I booked via Expedia where the hotel was advertising a Michelin trained chef and a restaurant. I travelled solo 145 miles for a two night break purely because of this. Upon arrival, I was disappointed to learn the restaurant closed last year. I expressed this disappointment in very civil tones, explaining this was the only reason for my visit. "The location of the property is good if you don't mind walking. The parking permit given to allow parking in certain zones is very good. Although if busy can be difficult to find a space but that is nothing the owners can control. The room was clean.
We had the small double room. It is very compact. The bed seems very small for a double and is pushed against a wall, not ideal when 2 people are sleeping in it. The shower was small too. You can hear the conversations in the next room.
