Very friendly and accommodating guesthouse near the Stone Forest. The main entrance and bus station of the Stone Forest is about 1km away and can be reached by car in 5 minutes. The guesthouse is located in a charming minority village with interesting local life.
Fang Yi, the owner's sister, took excellent care of us during our stay. She picked us up from the Stone Forest Scenic Area bus station, prepared a filling dumpling breakfast the next morning, dropped us off at the Stone Forest for an early start and recommended a decent place for dinner. She even took us to a Yi minority village festival during Mid Autumn Festival, which was a fascinating and rare event.
The ensuite rooms are newly furnished and have king size beds, TV, wifi, kettle and bottled water.
The host were amazing! Very very helpful and caring who goes beyond her limit to ensure we have a comfortable and a great trip in Kunming, will definitely stay there again!
This inn is an ideal stopover for Shilin Stone Forest and Juixiang Caves. To access the inn, take high speed train from Kunming to Shilin. On arrival at Shilin Train Station, catch bus #99 outside the station and get off in front of Shilin Yizu Number 1 Gate. Ride costs RMB10 per person. The inn is only a short walk from the gate. The inn-keeper, Mrs Wan, is a lovely lady - very caring and shows lots of concern for her visitors. Every Fri evening, there is a gathering of people at the town square for a free for all traditional folk dances and music featuring different tribes in their costumes. There's even a bon fire at the middle of the square. From the inn, bus #99 goes onward to the entrance of Shilin Forest. We were very glad to have stayed at the Shilin Family Folk Inn for 2 nights, rather than visiting the forest and caves from Kunming.
Excellent service, great family feel, the owner went above and beyond to exceed our expectations. Hopefully, will have the pleasure to go back there again one day.
Great place to stay! Staff can speak a little bit of English but was very helpful and friendly.
The room was clean and comfortable. However, do keep in mind that the hostal is located in an area where people are growing their own vegetables and raising their chickens outside of their houses, so it is normal to hear roosters crowing very early in the morning.
Every Tuesday and Friday from 9 pm to about 11 pm the locals dance in a plaza nearby the hostal, I highly recommend this! (Ask the lady, Ms. Wang, about this and also other things to do. She is very nice!)
If you like sleeping on a board, dogs barking in the middle of the night, roosters crowing continuously starting at 3:00 AM, unfinished concrete bathroom, and staff that won’t give you much local info, you’ll be right at home. The owners were otherwise kind and helpful, and breakfast was good.

Don’t Be Fooled by Ratings....
The ratings had us really looking forward to this stay and we wanted to like it, but were disappointed, mostly by the facilities. The staff, a family, is very nice and the breakfasts offered were ample and tasty. It’s close to the Stone Forest and there are shops and restaurants nearby, though the hotel doesn’t direct you to the latter. In fact, the village is of recent vintage, so don’t expect anything quaint. The big issue, however, is comfort. Rooms are spartan at best, with bathrooms bare concrete and the beds might be just box springs so they’re like sleeping on a board. Our request for an extra comforter for padding, in Mandarin, yielded nothing; they probably didn’t have one. To make matters worse, both a neighboring dog and rooster go off starting around 3:00 AM. Enough said?
we stayed for 4 nights in this wonderful guesthouse and loved every single day. the room was clean and spacious. the staff was really friendly and provided a lot of assistance to us. they helped us out with the tours and how to go the stone forest. the guesthouse looked very new as did this Yi village. restaurants and shops all in walking distance. one word it was just perfect.
