About this property
The Old Smithy, Holme-next-the-Sea, Norfolk
Romance and rustic, The Old Smithy is a charming detached self-catering barn conversion in the popular and quiet coastal village of Holme-next-the-Sea, located right on the coast in North Norfolk. Formerly the village blacksmiths, this hideaway has been sensitively converted into a cosy couples' retreat. Perfect for walkers, cyclists, bird and wildlife lovers, it is a fabulous base for exploring the whole of the North Norfolk coast.
Set in peaceful Holme-next-the-Sea, with its stunning sandy beach and village pub, The Old Smithy retains its authentic character, but has plenty of modern touches too. With its flint walls, cosy nooks, original features and peaceful setting, The Old Smithy offers a sunny front terrace and wildlife garden, yet comes with unexpected touches too, such as the stunning glass floor in the spacious bedroom.
Draw the big wooden barn door across at night and you'll feel totally tucked away from the outside world! Hunker down together in front of the wood burning stove and large flat screen television with BT Vision and Blu-Ray DVD player, or turn on the fabulous Sonos® music system and simply immerse yourselves in this pretty little abode.
With a calming décor and stunning first floor bedroom with vaulted ceiling, king-size bed and dressing area, you'll enjoy views across to Holme. The glass ceiling panel in the centre of the room also provides a wonderful focal point. The open-plan hand-built kitchen is well-equipped and comes with a sit-up bar with stools and a separate dining area. The sitting room has two comfortable chairs and a squashy leather sofa, perfect for snuggling down in front of the fire.
Outside, the side garden backs onto the marshes with uninterrupted views of the NWT Holme Nature Reserve. With a sunken patio area and lawn the garden offers the opportunity to relax and enjoy the seclusion and location of The Old Smithy, whilst also enjoying the bird and wildlife that surrounds it. But if you do need to keep in touch with the outside world, there is good WiFi and an EE signal booster in the property. This gorgeous barn is just perfect as a honeymoon retreat.

A beautiful little cottage in a quaint village.
Lovely enclosed garden for dogs.
Walking distance to a great pub.
10 mins drive to old Hunstanton beach where we had hired a beach hut with the property. What an amazing holiday!

Enjoyed our winter weekend
Holme-next-the-Sea is a brilliant base for excellent places to eat and lovely walks to be done near-by, probably made more beautiful in winter with not too many other people about!

Great place for a break.
Our second stay at the old smithy and it was as pleasant as the first. Great to have the wood burner on every evening real class. Our two dogs love it as much as we do. Great walks all around and within a short driving distance. The local pub is a very friendly cosy place that does great food and welcomes the dogs and it is one of the cheapest around the area. The kitchen has everything you need for self catering. We love the old smithy so much we booked for next year while we were staying there. One last thing the new stable door leading to the rear garden is an absolute bonus. Thanks for haning us.Bill Judy Charlie and Henry.
We are all looking forward to next year.

Old Smithy
Great cottage in a great location. Well fitted out.
Was a little on the expensive side, but very nice. The addition of the rear door to the garden was very useful and makes the garden easier to use. Very nice enclosed, secure and private garden - especially convenient for the dog.
Would recommend and would revisit.
Welcome pack appreciated.

Reasons for disappointment
Enjoyed our stay BUT found the bed uncomfortable - the headboard is a shocker as it has a hard edge
Which digs into your neck despite the pillows SO SITTING UP IN BED IS A NO NO. There is ALSO a steel roof
beam 15 inches above your neck when lying in bed ON which you can bump your head quite painfully when getting
into or out of bed. NOT SATISFACTORY.

Holme away from home
A lovely quirky little cottage for 2 plus a furry friend.
A well appointed cottage with lots of little well thought out extras. The welcome box was great.
Clean, well presented and cosy.
No back door directly into the garden but I understand that this is being sorted out over the winter.

Lovely holiday cottage in peaceful location
Our stay in this lovely cottage was enjoyable. The village location is peaceful with lovely walks from right outside the door. Great pub in the village with good food and beer. Brilliant spot to stay and convenient for the lovely North Norfolk surrounding area. Highly recommended.

Superb Norfolk Stay
We arrived after a long 12hr journey from Scotland with 2 young dogs during the most horrific thunderstorm the cottage down the lane was certainly a welcome sight. The small hamper waiting for us was very thoughtful especially the much needed bottle of wine after our long day on the road. The cottage was extremely comfortable had a rustic cosy and homely feel to it and although very compact it was well equipped with everything we needed for our week's stay and the dogs loved the sunny rear garden. The location was perfect for the local dog friendly pub and nearest beach both within walking distance, also great for exploring the quaint villages along the coast by car. We had a wonderful and unforgettable holiday in Norfolk and would hope to return one day in the future.

Holiday at The Old Smithy
Gorgeous little quirky cottage with so many home comforts and delightful extra touches. It was a fantastic base, with plenty of beautiful walks, pubs and beaches on the doorstep. We loved our weeks holiday here with our dog, would highly recommend staying here and hope that we will again soon!

Very good.
Lovely, but we are fairly old and could not understand how to work the TV or coffee maker, thwt probably our fault, wrong cubes. Luckily have come across an induxtin hon before...others might not have done! Oven rather hit and miss. But more up to date people would have no pronlems!

Weather didn't help but coul
We arrived two days late for our seven day stay due to the awful snow .
Also , we did not travel east to places we had wanted to visit ( Brancaster , Wells ,
Burnham Market etc. ) as the main coast road was closed for repairs and the diversion down was poorly signed .
None of this the owners fault of course .
However , being largely confined to the cottage , it would have been nice to have had some magazines ,
books , games DVDs etc which we have always found at other properties . One pack of cards doesn't do
it I'm afraid .
Also found the bed a problem in that the sloping ceiling is about 18 inches from your nose so bumping
your head is almost inevitable .
Nothing to do in Holme as there is just one pub , which is average at best . Hunstanton is interesting for
one visit and Sandringham has a very nice shop and restaurant but the house and church are closed in winter .
All in all , we would not visit this property again and would say it is a bit overpriced for what you get .
Might be a bit more enthusiastic is out a summer visit .

A little Gem in North Norfolk
A very pleasant stay. The welcome pack was a very nice touch. The cottage was very cosy, thank goodness for the wood burner as we encountered some extremely bad weather during our stay. One early evening on a particularly cold night a representative brought us a heater, this gesture was was very much appreciated and showed a high level of customer service, as did the fact we were able to gain access earlier on the day of arrival. Unfortunately, we decided to leave a day earlier due to the adverse weather conditions. A cosy, well equipped dog-friendly cottage in a very nice location.
Thank you.
