Hilo Reeds Bay Hotel

"Genuinely had a perfect experience with my week staying here! I'm from an area where AC is all but ubiquitous and I run warm, so I was a bit worried about the room being too hot. It wasn't an issue in the slightest! My room was laid out perfectly with a small balcony and multiple windows to capture the winds blowing through. I was perfectly comfortable and my room was equipped with a ceiling and floor fans for the rare times I wanted them. If anyone reading this is like me and reading reviews and worrying about the rooms being too warm, I can genuinely promise my room was never anything other than comfortable. Aside from the pleasant temperature, everything else was so smooth. I didn't stay at a peak tourist time, but there was always plenty of parking available. Staff were always pleasant and helpful, and housekeeping always made sure my room's trash was taken out daily. My room was very clean and cozy. Location is fantastic, quiet but a short drive from everything in the Hilo area. My balcony view of Reed's Bay was wonderful; I saw sea turtles almost every day right from my room! I also really appreciated the on-site laundromat. Check-in and check-out were smooth and simple. The hotel is older (and there is no elevator), but it's clean and has a lot of positives too. I would absolutely stay here again in a heartbeat, zero complaints and a super pleasant experience from start to finish! Thank you for such a nice stay!"

"Tram broke down and we did not know. We waited at the tram station and had to be at the golf course outside the property in an hour. We waited and waited and finally was notified tram broke down and we had to walk to the Lobby, probably a 15 minute walk, then another 5 or so minute to the parking lot. Everyone walked, even with suitcases. In the afternoon, there was a shuttle bus service. Usually there are notifications if we wanted the towels to be changed. There was no signage or notification, so towels were not changed during our stay. We stayed there many times before in previously years. Service was lot better then, probably because they were short staffed this time."

"Pacific 19 was very convenient for our stay in Kona. Parking was a bit tricky, but staff were helpful and friendly. There is no restaurant but only an outside breakfast building-cart with coffee and pastries. However other dining options close by and room had a small fridge plus a microwave. Would stay there again as price was great for the convenience."

"My husband and I had a wonderful one week stay at Fairmont Orchid. The weather was perfect mid October, and this area is generally very dry. We were looking to unwind and only rented a car for one day to go visit Volcano village and the botanical gardens in Hilo. I do recommend a one and a half hour scenic drive to the beautiful gardens. Snorkeling in the hotel lagoon was an amazing experience. There are so many turtles there and different kinds of fish. The hotel provides snorkeling equipment free of charge. Do not forget water shoes for swimming. I saw many sea urchins. There were plenty of chaises in the shade as well as in the sun, and you could also rent covered chaises as well as private cabanas. The food is good but it’s better at the neighboring Mauna Lani for the same money. The shuttle will take you there free of charge. You can walk there along the beach. We enjoyed both resorts. Fairmont guests are welcome at Mauna Lani. Overall, great relaxing time."

"The hotel offers excellent facilities that are easy to use. It is ideally located on the main street with convenient access to a sandy beach that’s great for swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking. Complimentary morning coffee, poolside drinks, souvenir water bottles, a seven‑stage water filtration dispenser on every floor, and beach chairs with parasols are all thoughtful touches. The only aspect that didn’t feel fully 5‑star was the front desk service, but overall the hotel deserves a 5‑star rating."
