"When we first arrived we were not expecting more than an average room to spend a night passing through. The entrance was tricky and the pavement bumpy but an early check-in and friendly staff had us in a King room with our dog. First the hall to the room was clean, smelled fresh. "We were hoping to use the pool. It was NOT USABLE DUE TO the WATER BEING CLOUDY. The room had a bleach smell. We were promised a “free breakfast”. Instead, we received a granola bar and orange juice with mandarin orange segments at check in."

"The woman who checked us in was so helpful and friendly!! We were going to our grandsons graduation and she printed off directions to help us. In the evening we couldn't figure out something regarding the cooling system and the TV and the desk clerk came up to the room twice to assist us. They were so friendly and we love staying there."

"South Shire is a quaint Victorian Inn on Elm Street within walking distance to the center of Bennington, VT. The Inn has a family feel and elegance. We traveled as a couple. It was easy to get to sites and enjoy fine restaurants. The Inn is in keeping with the feel of strength of the Bennington community, as a place for artists, musicians, and people's expression generally to thrive. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend South Shire."

"This was the second time I’ve stayed at this location, first time under New Englander Inn name. Both times I was impressed by how clean and organized the breakfast area was. A staff member was constantly in and out cleaning up and restocking the breakfast items."

"The rental was adequate but the kitchen was older, despite the cabinets being painted and the hardware being replaced. The appliances need replacing, including the coffee pot, and the seal around the kitchen sink had mildew, which made cooking unappealing. The hot tub was a nice addition, however, it snowed while we were there making the steps to get in and out slippery and very cold. Also, there is a rental unit above this ground floor unit, and if people walk on the floor late at night, which...
