Royal Swan Ashley Manor

"We stayed for a night at Royal Swan Ashley Manor. It's a bit of a difficult find (even with satnav) as it's on a relatively fast treed road with little obvious signage. The outside is very unassuming and if you arrive late, you will likely have to find parking on the back lawn (it's fairly smooth and on a hot summer's day is actually preferred because there's shade there). The rooms are not difficult to find, and your room key is an old-fashioned actual key attached to a large plexiglass plate. The room is fairly clean and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom we had was triangular and on the very small size, with a double-closet door entry that was frustrating in that it seemed unnecessary, was difficult to close due to interior trim that was falling out, and when opened the doors, the fan and light automatically turned one which means late-night visits to the washroom will wake up your partner with what at that time feels like a spotlight beam. Regardless, the room was clean, we slept well, and the staff were very helpful and responsive to questions and concerns."

"We have stayed at this hotel before and enjoyed it but we were quite disappointed to find on arrival after a hot day sightseeing to find the pool closed at 5pm due to lack of staff. The air con in the rooms also wasn't very efficient so had to rely on a fan. It was a very uncomfortable night. On the plus side, staff were lovely and the food was great. Location was perfect for us."

"The hotel is set in a lovely location and the main building is full of character. The bar area is a little small and getting served can take a while. Whilst the staff were very friendly and helpful, they seemed to be under a lot of pressure and not very well organised. The food was excellent but again the time it took was quite long in some cases. The tables could do with being numbered and the staff given a plan of the layout. The rooms were a little small and the lack of air conditioning made the rooms very hot and sticky. That said they were very well presented and clean. There was tea and coffee available but I think bottles of water would have been nice with a fridge to keep it cool especially when the weather is exceptionally hot. We had breakfast in the main dining room which was very well done and the range of food available was excellent. All in all this is worth considering as a good place to stay, with only small things letting it down which is a shame as it is a nice quiet place to stay."

Royal Esplanade Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"All staff are extremely helpful and courteous. The room was very clean and comfortable. Excellent location for the town, the bus and train station and hover craft, however the hovercraft is quite noisy if your room at the front of the building. Good food at all meals and the free cooked breakfast was a real bonus."

"A very lovely, friendly and comfortable hotel. Staff were super friendly. Restaurant food was great. À la carte breakfast was also very good but there was no fruit offered which I was disappointed with. Times were also a little tight from breakfast, dinner, room cleaning and checkout but it was a small hotel so this is understandable. I would definitely stay here again. Thankyou."
