The Neighborhood:
Artist’s Retreat by Stay Waiheke sits quietly between Onetangi and Palm Beach, surrounded by lush native bush and salty sea air. It’s close to everything, yet peaceful enough that the only sounds are birds in the trees and the distant roll of the tide.
It’s just a 10-minute walk down to Onetangi Beach, a gentle, scenic stroll through quiet residential roads if you’d rather not drive. Once there, you can swim, wander the long stretch of sand, or enjoy brunch at Charlie Farley’s, a true local favourite. You’re also just a short drive or bus ride from some of the island’s top vineyards, including Tantalus, Stonyridge, and Te Motu, perfect for long lunches and wine tastings under the vines.
The local bus stop is about a 9-minute walk away on Sea View Road, connecting you easily to Oneroa, Palm Beach, and the ferry terminal. Stop in at The Heke brewery a favourite local spot for craft beer and whisky, or enjoy their Friday Sundowner DJ sessions from 4 to 7 pm. The bus stops right outside the venue, no excuses. Or for something different spend the afternoon at EcoZip Adventures, soaring above native bush with sweeping coastal views.
Wherever you go, the island rhythm stays the same, relaxed, local, and easy.
Getting Around:
You’re close to everything here. The local bus stop on Sea View Road links easily to Onetangi, Palm Beach, Oneroa Village, and the ferry. Most of the island’s well-known wineries, including Stonyridge, Tantalus and Te Motu, sit right along the route, so you can ride, taste and wander without needing a car.
There’s parking at the property if you do drive, and e-bikes or scooters are a fun, easy way to explore. Waiheke Island is 20 kilometres long, and most of our homes sit within the first 10 kilometres. Taxis are available but can be pricey, so it’s worth planning ahead, or just catching the bus like a local.
Interaction with Guests:
The Stay Waiheke team are locals who love this island and are always happy to help. We’re available seven days a week from 8:30 am to 5 pm, and for emergencies only, there’s an after-hours number so you’re always covered.
