"So sad to see a what was once probably a lovely hotel now looking very tired and in need of updating. No aircon, marked carpets and tired bathroom. The only plus was the lovely receptionist who was very professional. When we arrived for breakfast, 80% of the tables had dirty plates and cups left and no-one clearing anything away yet there were 3 staff members milling around the bar area. Coffee machine out of order too!"

I just want to point out one defect in the hope that someone at Dunston Hall will see this and take some action to prevent it happening again.
We ate at the brasserie on 3 evenings and the cooking was, with one exception, very good. The exception was on the last night when one of my hasselback potatoes turned out to be bad . The attached photo shows how black it was inside. I showed this to the waitress who said she...
"Professional and friendly staff. Rooms had everything you could need for a comfortable stay. Location was good with major attractions very close. Although we liked the hotel, we felt it somehow lacked atmosphere: there was nothing really to invite you to linger in the communal rooms or to entice you towards the bar and restaurant (music playing, welcome drink, etc)."
"The whole hotel needs a facelift. Lift difficult to operate and had a strange smell. Shower needs 2 types of shower head, not just a waterfall with no shower hat provided. Breakfast was ok but nothing special. Disappointed, expected slightly more from a four star hotel."

"Nice hotel with kitchenette so able to grab what ever food is needed.
A few local pubs around with the best being the Pear Tree as staff are pleasent and greeting.
Key pad is a little confusing but once fathomed easy to use.

"Although the room was small there were all the necessary facilities available. Robert the host was very friendly and attentive to our needs. The choice of breakfast and quality were excellent. The hotel is well situated,close to beach and resort centre and car parking is on the street but no problem finding a space."
"Room was very small and didn’t look like what was advertised! Toilet seat was broken and the room was very hot as it was on the 3rd floor and my room also smelt of fish as the kitchen was below my room! Breakfast was nice! Won’t stay there again as the room isn’t worth the money and there isn’t enough parking for the hotel guests so I had to pay extra for parking!"
